Yeah, I was really surprised at how cool they were about it. All I wrote was:
"I received my order today but the bulb was smashed" Then I linked them to the first pic.
They responded within 30 mins: "We will send out a replacement bulb tomorrow"

Sucks I gotta wait on it, but I'll just get a standard 400 watter for now and keep that as a backup once the replacement comes in.

Finally got a bulb for this light, not bad ca $25 at Home Depot.

Girls are looking aight, the Lemon Skunks are praying, the Sour D. looks like shit as usual.

Crap reflector, will probably spray it titanium white.

View from above, if it wasn't for this pic I wouldn't have remembered to shut off my green cfl.

New ballast , power strip and timer for the veg room.

Veg room has been upgraded with one of the old mogul based 150s.
I got the CFLs on 24/0 and the 150 comes on when the flowering room goes off.
That's what the veg timer was for in case you wondered.

Some of the left over old crap, still gotta clean up more tomorrow, getting too late now since it's almost 4am. I really gotta paint the walls in there it's still that funky green and yellow sponge painting, my wife did back when it was part of a bigger room.

Well this sucks, was laying in bed and I can hear the exhaust now. Weird thing is that I only moved it a few inches closer to the opposite wall from the one touching my bedroom. Originally I had it pretty much centered it in the room and it didn't sound like that. I guess it's too close to the wall which is causing the sound to bounce off he wall. I really gotta get my ass in bed now, gotta get up to get the kid ready for school.

Isn't 50W per square foot the recommended wattage for growing? Buddy of mine says it's the minimum for high quality bud. Just wanna hear some of your thoughts, thanks.

Looking good! Bet you're thrilled to have that 400w going, eh? Thought I'd share with you, found a timer at Lowes, that's actually a power strip - four of the outlets work on the timer, and four are just regular, untimed outlets. Thing is only $20! I had to replace the battery in them right off, but still - I like having everything plugged in the same place. They are heavy duty, up to 1875w I think.

For growing, it doesn't go by watts, goes by lumens. You want a minimum of 3000 lumens per sq foot, 5000+ recommended.

Ok so let's say lumens then. According to the calculations from here, given my light outputs ca 53,000 lumen at 1 ft away, 13,250 at 2ft , and even 3ft away would still be 5,888 lumens. Somehow that doesn't work out with your recommendations, even if my light puts out only 45,000 lumens that just doesn't work out.

Thanks for the timer/powerstrip tip. I actually use an Intermatic pool timer for my flowering area, but that sounds perfect for my veg box. + Rep

Edit: Nevermind, looking it over again, the calculator gives seperate values for 'lumens per square foot' and 'lumens at plant' It would average out to 6625 lpsf. I was looking at the wrong shit I guess. So that should be more than plenty of light then.

I don't know about that calculator. Just times your width by length, there's your sq footage. As for the lumen dropoff - I personally don't believe those charts to be correct - if they were correct, even the most powerful of lights wouldn't grow shit - not by the time we have to move them away from the plants.

It's not just some random dude coming up with charts lol, it is proven fact that the light diminishes to a quarter every foot added to distance.

I took apart the whole exhaust system today, took about 2 ft off the length and put it back up, it's definitely better now. Pics tomorrow, heading to bed somewhat early today.

I wouldn't worry about that distance factor too much, other than to keep your light at say, 8-16" over the tops.

For wattage per square foot, I would just go with the general grow area recommendations based on the 50W per sq ft ideal -- 4x2 for 400W; 3x3 for 600W, etc.

My grow area is probably more like 3x3 or 3x4 under a 400W, but I make up for it by rotating and moving plants daily. Seems to be working great so far.

Left to right: Lemon Skunk, Querkle, Lemon Skunk.

I tried running the 150w in the veg box while the 400w in the flowering area was on, think it's too hot for that shit. Felt like close to 80, but it's kinda hard to judge without a thermometer.

So I have to get a better chain or yo-yo's for my light, some flat white paint and a thermometer next time I got shopping. I would like to get the power strip DoeEyed recommended, but that's not a necessity.
