Reliable 240v, timers

Hey Rollers. I'm in another situation where I've got no clue again. This time with fuckin timers.

I've just had a second HPM brand mechanical timer shit itself in under 3 months. Both of which were running my 182w Vero29 cobs.

Can anyone suggest a brand that isn't going to crap out half way through a grow?

I don't care if its digital or mechanical. I just want to have some kind of certainty that I'm not going to find my lights still on 3 hours after they're supposed to have shut down.

I'd prefer if they were skinny timers as I don't have all that much room to dedicate to chunky hardware. Hell. I'd even be happy with a power board that's got timer control built in. I just don't know what I'm looking for in a quality timers.

Well I'm in the UK and I use direct wired heavy duty timers, been no problems so far, and you can get them from the popular auction site or the rainforest

Hmmm. I seen a few of those on ebay. I don't really want to be wiring up everything. I'd prefer to just plug another in. Thanks for the input though.

Ive used these water heater timers for years, no issues. They do have to hard wired in.

Another option is a heavy duty 240v relay switched on by a simple 120v timer. HtH

make sure to match the frequency 50/60 Hz to your country's standard if you want the clock to spin right.
My electric service is 220v 60Hz, and I bought a mechanical timer from the UK which was 220-240v 50Hz, when I plugged it and set it to 12/12, the lights will come on for like 10 hours then shut of for like 10 hours then repeat again. I use it for my cloner now and it works great.

As MarMan mention check the electrician preferenser. I always use OMNIREX the go timer goes to 16A.

And since you use cobs if u got 2 drivers with two power connectors to the wall. Make sure two connect them in a 2way extender and always connect the timers to the wall always dont use extender. /Flodas

How hard are you hitting those timers? The drivers can have a 75A start up spike which reduces over 520 seconds if you check the datasheets.

If you are running many lights off one timer you may want to look into getting a contactor to put between the timer and the lights....it is basically a bulky solenoid switch.

Intermatic makes quality timers and time clocks. I run receptacles powered by contactors and never have issues. But If I had to get a plug in I would look at anything intermatic has. I use their timeclocks and they last for years if sized properly .

I have to dig this one up, as I am in a similar situation, looking for valid feedback from those of you who KNOW what the specs are on this setup.
I'm in the USA.

I just bought a house that has a 240v 40a line running in the basement straight from the breaker. The breaker box is well labeled it says "Basement range." I bought the large 3 prong electric stove plug to fit the outlet.
I have, 2x MW ELG 240 700s in my arsenal, so I soldered both driver inputs to that appliance plug. The ELG versions are case grounded, so the ground line of that plug has been secured to each case. The ground continuity has been checked, and confirmed on each driver. I can run 15x EB series 560mm strips on each driver. I built those racks, and everything is working as it should.

Now onto my issue. I'm in need of a timer for these "lamps"
After some searching, I came up with the same results as posted above, Is the Electric water heater timer option the best for my situation?
Also, if I had to hard wire this in to my system, I should be using at least 12ga wire right?

titan controls work great

What about 20 amp timers? I have dedicated 20 amp Outlets for my lights and I run a heavier gauge extension cord but I can only use one time per light because of the spike on 1000watters

I use a contactor (relay) and it works well, went through two heavy duty timers before that. Also use 12 guage wire for my 1000w, 14 would work but bigger is better they say.
