Renewable Energy + Battery Storage = Fossil Fuels Obsolete, Even Natural Gas

Yeah you might not be doing anything with the real estate...

Nature tho is already using that real estate. It is already stressed from our intrusion on the land coupled with climate change.

Looking at the land as a blank slate to impose our will on is excatly what got us into this mess in the first place.
The roof. No one is doing anything useful with all that space on the roof.

This isn't complicated.

Nuclear power isn't even price competitive, to say nothing of the incredibly dangerous pollution they produce.

It's just not a viable solution at any level.
They don't pollute if done right

Infact history has shown you need one of the biggest earthquakes ever recorded and a fucking tsunami to mess up a nuclear power station

Cheap is not always the smart solution

I've wondered if a lot of this could be avoided with something as simple as deer whistles on the blade tips. I think more research should be done into finding ways to avoid such environmental impacts.

As an example, plans to dismantle and remove drilling rigs in the North Sea off the Scottish coast and in the Gulf of Mexico have been shelved; it turns out that leaving them in place creates artificial reef style habitat and supports the populations of a whole ecosystem of sea life. Unintended benefits!

Lol on one hand you are worried bout mans intrusion and the next post you’re pushing nuclear
It's not a perfect solution but it is a small one

One power station taking up tens of acres of land will effortlessly provide power that you'd need thousands of wind turbines or square miles of land for solar to get the same results...

The birds commit suicide on our sliding glass doors. Maybe we should knock all the houses down?

You can do as much with your roofs as you want. I have no problems with that

It is just a drop in the ocean of what is needed tho...
Ever heard of a passive home? They're built to be highly efficient; so insulated that the heat of home electronics and inhabitants is most of what they need to stay warm in winter. In summer, such insulation keeps them from heating up. That saves a huge amount of energy.

The clincher? Experienced builders can build them for under 10% more than conventional homes.

This is a solution that just needs to be encouraged to happen via public awareness and enlightened building codes.

At that point, rooftop solar can run the whole place and have juice left over for the electric car in the garage.

It's time you stopped mouthing industry propaganda and started doing your own homework.

And those same tiny plants dispose their consumed fuel rods wherever is cheapest and the contamination field is larger then the fields of turbines u speak of.
The truth is there is no one size fits all answer to this problem and most likely the solution is going to be different in every location.

Your missing out on a huge part of the equation here

That doesn't cover transport and it doesn't cover industry either

Not all of the power needed to run a country is held within your own 4 walls...

I would say "citation needed" here but instead I'm just going to flat out say bullshit...

Effortlessly?! o_O

They cost literally billions more than originally planned, even without factoring in end of life decommissioning costs.

Have you even looked at the state of nuclear power these days? Utilities can't dump the construction projects, let alone existing plants fast enough! They're stranded assets- do you even know what that term means?

What's wrong with a thousand acres of wind turbines? Are you trying to imply that you can't grow crops or raise livestock under them? That's simple bullshit, nothing more.

Why can't we cover parking lots with solar carports? The land is already in use, the covers are beneficial.

Do you want to talk about actual solutions or just keep sucking radioactive nuke industry cock?

An experienced blabber like you should be able to talk a passive home up over night.

Do tell us where they store them that isn't extremely expensive and environmentally destructive.

Tell us again how the nuclear waste fires at WIPP are 'just an anomaly'.

Suck a fuel rod or do your homework. None of us are buying your blue sky bullshit.

Don’t worry Homer Simpson your jobs safe
Power utilities themselves are leading the switch, driven by simple profitability.

I'm not surprised the dinosaurs haven't caught up yet. They like their Koch smokers clean coal propaganda...
