I hope you got $$$$ to spend on the set up and a security system. Its hella expensive out here ,the most expensive place to live in the country and LA for the most part is a shit hole. If your budget is tight meaning under 1500 for rent your going to live in a not so nice area with sketchy people . There are few places to live that aren't bad but the price comes with it. If your in like glendale, riverside an area outside the city of LA in the valley maybe, it might be better cheaper to live. LA is fucking huge.

Oh yeah , hope your ready for your power bill which with 4 1k lights a veg light , all your other grow equipment and you living will be around 700 a month possibly a bit more. A 8 1k set up with you living is about 1500 a month on power. <-- This is a fact no bullshit. :hump:

1800-2200 hundred here. Got a hot tub to stack on everything else, ouch!

Also, it a good idea to find out what kind of meter you have. If you've got an analog meter, make sure you call your electric company and tell them you don't want a smart meter. If you've got a digital already, don't worry about it.

The older the analog meter, the less you're going to get charged for electricity. But if you've got a digital meter, it'll have no effect.

lOok for a semi newer house (pre 1960) will have better connections and updated wiring/ breakers.. and electrician might be needed, but a 2-4k op is relatively small and are not uncommon IMO. i was running my small op on a 30 amp breaker only in my garage, and its was a 1k light and 1.5k heater... i wass dumb and didnt realize how much the heater took. sooo now i just bought 2x600's and digital ballasts to replace the heater..=0 =) itll be worth having the rental company leave you the hell alone to rent from one in my opinion

Electric heaters really suck up the juice.

I run all 600w lights, I like them just great. I run 3 of them over each 4x8 table. 2 work good for a 3x6.

It prob also depends on how big of a house or apartment and how many people live their for the electric also..I want a 2-3 bedroom but im a single person and wont run a bunch of stuff..If need be ill unplug everything when done using..lol..JK...DK how many tables do u have, how many plants, how many lights total , how big of a house/apartment, how many people in the house..Just to compare to..Trying to figure out how many plants, lights and what not it would take to cover bills and such, cant work due to huge car accident..Figured 1,000 for rent(up north not a big city area), 400-500 electric, cable 100, living, 700(varying)..Thats atleast 2500 a mth to live and thats about 7500 for the first cycle, will start 30 fems every 20 days i was thinking prob do autos..Also how much for upgraded electirc as i would prob want 3600w of lighting thinking 3 of the lumatek dual 600s with the growzilla reflectors..With this i think i can get 2lbs every 20 days once i get the cycle going with the 30 plants, obviously that would be if i got 100 plant limit which i think i would quilify for easily..With the 2 lbs every 20 days thats 4,500-5k+ hopefully..Does this sound like it would work??? Oh yeah prob another 300mth on nutes for that many plants(using AD PH'd perfect)..

experience has been good.Did really well my first 2 times, problem is there are meds everywhere and i mean everywhere.

Construction will set you back a month. So your scheduled time frame may be a month behind. Also you better check out the house to see if you have good power, and good water. The water at my place is terrible !!! Try to find a place in agricultural zoning. That wouldn't be in the city and i "think" power cost is cut by 50% . not for sure though.

So. California is saturated; No. is right behind. Dispensaries have broken the $200.00/oz. territory. Some foolish growers will sell this low and are ruining it for everyone else. Soon, we'll all be forced to go underground to be able to make a living at it. Between the taxes and governmental interferences, we are at a crossroad in the MMJ arena. Seems like everyone is growing because there aren't many jobs here. I had to resort to growing just to survive. I lost my home already and have been self-employed all my life. No help from any sources due to the Self-Employed thing and I am also disabled. I never did a large scale grow but am having a blast at it. Problem will be if I cannot get decent money for my time and efforts. Many have written, like you, about moving here. You are in for a real treat and a shock too. I moved here 22 years ago from Chicago and never looked back. Good luck to you. Oh, I would NOT tell your Landlord; probably not rent to you. The government can and most probably will take the Real Estate from the Landlord if he was aware of your growing. Most homes will have a 200 Amp service unless they are older, and then probably 100 Amp there. It isn't about if the house can handle 4000 Watts, rather can the circuit handle it. There are electricians that advertise "stealth" services but I wouldn't tell anyone at all. Risk is too high. I don't even let people who show up, un-announced, come into my grow. Pests can come this way too. All it takes is a few "hood rats" to know and hold you at gunpoint for your harvest. So many people know so much more now...

Ill prob also buy storage units and have a spot at a decent flea market as i love sales and im good at it and it wont be hard to make a living with the herbs also...I know theres always alot of herbs but there isnt always great herbs..If u have good bug they will buy it, hell i might do the delivery thing or move to mendocino and do the whole legel thing they have going on to save deputies jobs or something like that i saw on TV..Im not worried and i live fairly cheap i just wanna grow some buds without worrying and having to stop doing things cuz u drive urself crazy from being paranoid..So does anyone actually ask there LANDLORD(houses)?? I would reather rent a house and have that person know what i do and not have to worry bout them wanting to do an "INSPECTION" and get kicked out and have my crop die..

if you are doing this for personal reasons you stand a chance to do it but probably need to scale it down slightly. im thinking 2K max. just have different veg/flower areas to get the most out of your set up (rather than put 2K in one room and veg/flower all at once.

If this is a for profit grow then forget it. you're just asking for trouble trying to grow for profit in a rental. Eventually you'll get caught.

I grew in a rental before. When things are good they are good but when you have an inspection or something inside needs to be replaced/looked at then things can get awkward. I had to tear down my ENTIRE setup MORE than once. It was hard to do and took 6-7hrs at a time to tear it down and about 4-5 hours to put it all back and i was only pushing 2K max w/ separate veg/flower areas.

Landlords don't like renting out to mmj growers. if you look on the likes of craigslist you'll see many ads (to rent houses/apts) that clearly say, "NO MMJ GROWERS" or "NO 215" or whatever.

they will be on the lookout for marijuana grows way more in a place like California as california has LOTS of mj use and mmj patients.

They technically can throw you out of your lease and/or call the cops on your if you have a grow in their house/apt. even if you have a mmj card. so you're really taking your living situation and freedom into your own hands as it could all come crashing down.

I would recommend against it. i'd keep the grow small and simple. i wouldn't go over 2K watts as its just too much equipment to move at a moment's notice. even if you have carbon filters and no light leaks, etc. you can still get busted pretty easily especially if you're pushing 4K watts.

if you wanna go balls out buy a house/property.

oh and don't steal electricity whatever you do.

also: there are some folks who DO rent to mmj growers but that means you have to tell them and i personally don't suggest doing that as thats a person who knows you grow, where you grow, and they will eventually see how much you're growing...they can easily rip you off one way or another.

so i say buy your property to grow in or keep your setup small (2K max) and make it easy to setup/tear down at a moments notice.
