++REP!! Can a few buds develop early in the season before flowering really starts?

I have a clone that I have had it for three weeks now (not sure how old it was when I got it). It got some preflowers developing on the lower stem and more are coming in up higher. The plant is about 15" in height now. I am growing outdoors so I was not expecting flowering to start until September or October. She gets about 5-6 hours of full sun a day and then shade until night fall. Her lower buds got slightly bigger (about the size of a tic tac) and there are trichomes covering them. The pistils all turn red almost as soon as the preflowers come in. I was informed that turning pistils can simply mean the plant is mature and/or various other things such as different strains etc. What I want to know is will my plant continue to grow and actually develop colas later in the season? Or are these "flowers" a sign that she failed? She is still growing and looking green so it is not like she is dying.

Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate it and that is a comfort to me. I was worried that that would be the end of it. And thanks again! It's nothing special...I have a Canon Powershot SD960 IS with 12 mega pixels, but it does have a really nice macro feature...in the future I plan to invest in a nice DSLR, but for now this does the job :)

I'm happy to know they're just preflowers :) I live in CA...when can I expect to see some actual flowering?

Yep, definitely preflowers. You should see real buds start to develop in the next few weeks, depending on the strain. :)

Hooray! I am getting real excited now :) will the top acquire more buds and create a cola?
yeah but it takes 8-12 weeks to fully form. you will see the center of the tops will start to really grow pistils, then form buds soon after.

hey im in a similar boat, but instead im worried about my pre buds having red hairs. the hairs arent all over but in the ones my hands came closest too and me being a smoker makes me feel like i might have killed em or dryed em up or something. i planted six and as of right now, all look like females(fucking yeah) just 4 of the 6 have partially red shriveled hairs. the place i live in im certain theres not males. so im almost positive that eliminates fertilization(no fucking male is havin its way with my beautiful girls cept me bitch) get back to me on any ideas if this post isnt dead. btw i used a 15-30-15 chemical fert and they turned red after that, could it be a side effect? should i flush? theres no sign of nute burn plant looks happy as ever. thanks guys.

Hey I know what you mean I had been worried about the same thing. But from what I've been reading and from the wonderful help here at RIU, pistils turning red can be because of many different reasons including being touched, the strain, and a sign that the plant is mature. I wouldn't worry too much about it and just keep doing what you're doing. I am also using 15-30-15 (though I cut it in half for now) and my plant seems to be doing well on it. I wouldn't flush unless you have signs of nute burn...
