+REP Flushing soil w/ tap IS THIS OK??

Hey RIU,

Im growing a few plants in soil and Ive come to the conclusion that I have over-fertilized them and now I need to do a heavy flush.

My question is can I use tap water for this and will the chlorine, pH, and dissolved solids cause more of a problem than it'll fix.

Any good info with experience is greatly appreciated and will recieve a +REP.

man i flush right in the bath tub.never had any issues. of course i live in an area where water tratment is satisfactory.

So i should check the pH first then flush??

i fiil my gallon jugs up .ph then flush. and it takes fuckin forever but still kinda fun. of course i also use 5 gallon buckets for pots.

Its ok to use your tap water to flush but first you should let it sit out with no lid on the container for 24-48 hours so that chlorine and other unwanted stuff can dissolve. Then I would adjust the ph to 6.5 and flush.

Yaaa use tap water and flush soon tap water is beter than a nute burn.

if you have a 2 gallon pot use straight water and put about 4 gallons of water in it so its always double the amount and then wait till its dry and then do it again and that should do it bro

I thought it was 3x the size of the pot in water.

Has anyone used florkleen to flush there plants. I heard if you use this stuff you only need to use as much water as you would when you water regularly. Is this true?

Flushing w/ tap water is completely fine, just make sure like others said to let tap water sit out for a day or two so that chlorine can evaporate. Then ph the water and have at it! I don't think you'll harm your plants at all, I only use tap water for everything with these plants and not having issues with watering.

OK, heres the deal with flushing in soil. Alot of people will tell you not even to PH balance the first 2/3 of the water you are going to need to flush with because it will just run right through and come right out.

I personally pH balance all of the water going through my pots because i'm a nazi and do not want to leave my soils' pH all whacked out. To be completely honest, i do not know that it matters one way or another.

The only reason chlorine could be a problem is if you are growing organic. Chlorine will kill anything alive in the soil, including your beneficials. If you have the time, then allow the water to sit out and the chlorine will evaporate.

The disolved solids will most certainly not be a problem.

Look, just prepare plain water with a ph of 6.5. Pour 3x your container size (ie 3 gallon pot/9 gallons water), and let them drain thoroughly.

I am assuming you have holes in the bottom of your containers? I know this is a stupid question but i had a friend who tried to flush his grow bags.. only problem was he had the ones without holes.. LOL.. needless to say he did not achieve the desired outcome.

P.S., doing this in a bathtub would be the ideal place, there WILL be ALOT of water that needs to drain.

ALSO, remember that the purpose of flushing was to flush the excess nutrients out of the medium. If done correctly, you will have completely flushed the nutrients out of your medium, leaving only the stored nutrients in the leaves, which will soon be used up and need replenishment. You may want to lightly fertilize your plants immediately after flushing them, or if not, definetly on your next watering.

YES it is bad . it can cause stress and weaken your potentcy it's the chlorine and chloramines and any other particles and whatever else is in the water I would put it in a jug leave it over night and that'll remove all the harmful things in the water. then before putting it in check pH and if you're having a problem with your plant tap definitely isn't the best idea

yeah not a prob bud and it'd be cheaper to just let water sit but it is def recommended to get the pH kit
