Ok so its been really cold around here and my ebb and flow res has been staying at 62 to 63 f which is to low but today it was down to 58. I know its not good for this low of a temp. Can anyone fill me in on what this will do to the plants and how cold is going to really effect my end results. It's only day 6 from going to 12/12 and the temp outside is going to increase soon I hope but around here you never know. Thanks all who reply?

58 may be a bit low but for short periods there shouldn't be a prob. If you're worried, tent them with plastic or mulch them. Either way works. As for what can happen, many variates go Technicolor with cold temps, purple, red, blue.

cold whater isnt good so id seperate the resi from the ground is it on concrete? if so get some strofoam at a local hardwhere store they sell it in sheets like 1to 2'' thick or hit some alleys in town to check dumpsters and ret the resi off the ground and insulate it so heat transfer cannot suck all the heat out. anything will work i guess stro is best alsoput a lid on it or wrap it to save whatever heat you can i used to use a fishtank heater in my resi with a control its like a curling iron you drop in keep it at 68 or so you can prob find one on craigslist but they are cheep at your local pet supply...amazon whatever keep in mind your room should be 70-80 lights on and not lower than 60 when off good luck BDT1981 rockon bro OFTR

DO NOT EVER put an aquarium heater in your res, it's just begging for problems. The area around the heater will be much hotter and the slime will develop all over it. My tap is 47* and i fill large res's and start them right away with it.

Put the therm pickup right next to the heater keep the water moving with an aristone works great if done properly keep the light out change your resi ran it for years without a prob every setup is different BDT just do what you have to do work out the kinks.....OFTR

64 is great, i try to keep it there and no higher then 66. On rez change lately it can get as low as 58 since the water comes in so cold so I will put a heater in the water for about 3-4 hours till it climbs back over 60. Never had slime problems but I wouldn't leave the heater in there if the water had nutes. I'm sure if its too cold there could be a chance of shocking roots and stunting a plant.

When I do a res change I use tap water @ 10c, no worries. It stays low for about 12 hours before reaching a stable 20c.
