Research looks at the effects of irradiation on cannabis.

What a joke, 2 reasons
reason 1 - it was a study that Bedrocan was involved in.
Reason 2 -

In an interview with Lift, Hazekamp noted that while a handful of terpenes were diminished, it would be comparable to the amount lost by simply leaving a bud sitting out for a week.

They admit that it is comparable to leaving a bud out for a week? WTF. We put it in jars and burp it to preserve the terps. Everyone who uses Cannabis knows you do not want some bone dry dust ass weed, you want fresh terp laced weed. What a joke how they try to word it to make it seem like it is not a big deal, oh the "THC and CBD is fine" but the terps not so fine, lol we all know it is THC combined with terps that give the good effects of the different Cannabis.

The kicker is then he trys to say,
“Everyone knows that terpenes can rapidly evaporate,” says Hazekamp, “because we can smell them. That means they are in the air, and therefore not in our cannabis anymore!

Know shit, yes when not irradiated we can smell them. This is the exact reason why we need to grow our own. We need access to fresh Cannabis off the vine, not shit that has been dried then irradiated. If I do not get the right amount of terps, it is almost pointless to use Cannabis. Not even dispensary cannabis is fresh enough for me. And when i say fresh I do not mean wet, I mean 4-6 days drying in a controlled environment, put into jars and brought to the perfect humidity for storage.
What they are doing to the herb is completely stopping the curing process.
Quack science.

I still don't see the need to irradiate except for people with serious immune system issues. I've smoked cannabis grown in every environment you can think of at some point in my life...never had an issue.

There's only one reason to irradiate, their cannabis didn't pass QA. Otherwise the LP would offer the same strain from the same batch irradiated or non irradiated. That's not the case, they do it so they can sell cannabis that failed QA the first time around. Irradiated cannabis will be a thing of the past soon, now any flower that failed QA can be turned into oil. Only the oil needs to pass QA not the starting material. Most concentrate processes will sterilize the oil.

when you see little 70 year old lady's making small batches of meds at home...
you have to realize this shit is catching on fast.

The thing is unless you grow it yourself you never know how or what was used to grow the cannabis. The next best alternative is to buy from somewhere with strict cultivation guidelines and who are mandated to test the cannabis within a pharmacopia guideline. Other than that it's a crap shoot, I've seen some pretty dastardly things done to cannabis that's being passed as medicine.

buy from "strict cultivation guidelines"

Quit smoking Irritated weed Mr!

Is Miracle grow not good enough for you? ;)
and
Meds are meds, weather its finished or not!

Gamma rays, mostly absorbed by covalent bonds in DNA, therefore bacteria and mould spores not viable.
Very little impact on terpenes. But LP's will use it as another excuse for garbage bud.
Can't get the link active. Radiation Effects and Damage - Keith E. Holbert

The study used Bedrocan pot. I tried them, all low TCH garbage bud. Over fertilized won't burn at all. Dry like dust. So wet it would rot if not gamma. None had more than a trace of terpenes.

Few months ago, Marketplace tested herbal supplements with DIN #. 75% did not contain what the label claimed. Why should most LP's be different? 30% THC in Tilray garbage bud? Total BS. Med pot, just another corporate industry full of marketing BS.

Pot cures for 3 to 5 days immediately after harvest, then dried. No reason for gamma to effect curing. But another excuse for LP's.

A mutation or hybrid that produces a high trichome density on the inside of sepals is the only way to approach 30%. The trichome stalks are 2 to 3 x normal length. Anybody else see this or have it growing now?

Letting a bud sit out for a week is a long time. In other words, you lose a huge %.

Also, myrcene is the most potent terpene in Cannabis (and one greatly effected in 2/3 samples). It diminishes the strength of the blood brain barrier and greatly effects potency. It's the same thing that's in mangos and everyone knows about the mango trick.

I'm not sure Bedorocan had any real direct involvement in this study other than supplying product. Did they finance it too? If so, that calls it into question much more so.

Heavy metals would be the biggest issue. There's plenty of nutes out there that don't contain them why cheap out and buy mg.
I'd be surprised if they contained heavy metals. The only things I could find said they contained no heavy metal contamination at all. The problem with miracle grow is that it sometimes is lacking in micronutrients (strain dependent). It's also made by Monsanto isn't it? So you're supporting the man. Also a lot of folks think the chelators used in inorganics can be bad for you but I haven't seen anything indicating one way or the other, although I haven't looked either.

Organics can have a real problem with heavy metal contamination however, but if you know your source you should be good. Best to go super local when doing organics IMO.

*edit*

There is one thing about inorganics, they do usually have trace levels, but for example with cadmium sometimes the cadmium:zinc ratio is bad. Should be 1:100 to prevent uptake.

I have seen stuff about organics being contaminated as well. You really just need to do your homework at the end of the day.

I'd say that this is a good place to do that homework OGEvilgenuis. You guys are really detailed with your comments, which I find helpful b/c I don't know as much about this plant as you guys do but this is a great place to build on that knowledge base. Thanks!

Having tried what PPS had to offer at the tail end of the MMAR, I can attest that irradiating the cannabis kills the terpenes to where the smell and taste is affected. Absolutelty NOT a minimal change as stated
