Why don't we see more of them? Is it because intelligence levels aren't high enough, so it's hard for us to distinguish between actual levels of mental retardation in animals and just their highest level of cognitive function?

That's my theory..

outlier's are easy to spot from both sides as comparisons, but you have to have met one to know the difference between the dumb and the extremely stupid, and if you really talking about retarded animals id just say you dont see them at all because they dont live long

had 2 brother malamutes when i was young, one was absolutely retarded the other was just not smart

I've met some extremely retarded dogs before lol, don't think they actually were but retarded for how a dog should act. My friend had a Australian Shepard and that thing was always retarded looking, wasn't very bright and couldn't teach it shit.

actually, in the wild, if an animal has a deformed baby, sometimes the parents will kill it immediately. Like, I've heard of a dog mother eating her litter caus something wasn't right.

Also, obviously, a deformed animal may not be able to survive long.

I don't wanna get off subject, but did you know they only test for mad cow disease in the US if an animal is showing signs of a psychological disorder? They never take random samples and test cows, only if the cow is acting retarded. I mean, I sorta understand since it would be a big "waste" of money testing for something that is so rare, but then also, I'm totally horrified.

i used to breed ball pythons, and in one particular sub species of ball python 'known as the spider' has a genetic retardation if you wanna call it that. the snake basically doesnt know up from down. its body is correct but its head is going in every which direction. idfk how they eat or drink, its fairly sad to watch. Also known as the wobbles. unknown why they do it but it happens

Not knocking breeding those but I really hate when people buy those things and then don't think about the future of obtaining it, people don't do research like at all it seems, those things get HUGE.

ball pythons dont get too big, you should see the burmese pythhon or anaconda i got lol. but i do no longer breed them. feel bad keeping snakes in bins and cages just for breeding and $. doesnt seem right. also it was hard as fuck! lol

I especially feel thi sway about birds...Imagine being able to fly, and being kept in a cage for your entirelife...Talk about torture!

Yeah and for like 80 years, that be like a prison sentence for murder. I have 2 sugar gliders and even tho they're nocturnal, I've customized a closet to be a big cage and still take them out every night. Mine are kinda weird tho and are up off and on during the daytime lol.

My mom has indoor cats. I mean, they still have their claws, but man, gotta be hell seeing the outside world pass by while you're living in your little fishbowl of a house.

I tried getting into the ball python breeding buisness. Turns out it takes the whole "passion" mindset and not the "money money money" mindset.

I'd still do it if they were easier to care for.

I like the cats that run around the neighborhood that don't have a real owner. They're free so it's pretty cool when they actually wanna chill with you.

Well, that's jsut kind of the way cats work. They always have a "Fuck off, I don't need you...Now scratch my belly, slave" mentality. Where as dogs are usually more like "What can I do to please you master? I like kibble!"...Every now and then, you run across a dog who give you the ol' "Sure, we could do this, treat me with respect and I'll be a good friend for years to come"

I had an Oscar that was shaped like an angel fish, he couldn't catch feeder fish so he only ate pellets and flakefood.... but he lived a long time, until I moved him in a bigger tank where he died a horrible death thats for another thread....... but he was a retarded fish.
