does anyone reuse there soilless medium? it seems like such a waste to buy new every time. I know you would have to add new ferts, but can you do it. someone told me before it's not good because of salt build up, but there has to be something you can put in it fix that. let me know what you guys do. if you do reuse what do you put in it, and how much of it?

i have read of others doing it, if i remember correctly they composted it for like 3 months then added more perlite and some lime to add porosity and correct ph, i think they added some nutes aswell and i may be forgetting some stuff too, but i think the sitting period is what was relied upon to compost the roots. I have had great success reusing FFOF myself on my tomatoes and houseplants, but i don't think there as picky.

you say ocean forest ....but..... you then say soilless medium so what r u talking about reusing soil sucks you have to flush it and you can cook it to kill bacteria and such. but a soilless medium you could reuse after flushing it

Not a common practice, you can transport disease/pests in used soil and it is also nutrient deprived.

Saying that I use FFOF that I cut vegging males out of, my theory is my soil is clean and free of disease so far, and pest free, plus I dont think that the veg period is enough to completely drain the soil of nutes.

More to the point I only use it for seedlings and topdressing soil in pots that have been compacted, this is largely wasted soil, or on the side of the seedlings slightly less then full strength FFOF is hardly starving them.

So I do it, it works, I dont suggest it for everyone.

Yo and for people who want big soil grows the leftover dirt becomes a HUGE problem.

it is expensive if you have to get it online because noone ships soil for free even when you spend the said amt that offers free shipping.
I know its a pain I had to order some online shipping wasnt so bad tho.
you just gotta flush it use some hydroguard or something for the pests.

yea raider I had got 5 12qt bags and shipping was about $30 this was with other stuff tho like pH up/down so i didnt pay that much but..
the online shops charge about 35-40 just to ship a 1.5cubic foot bag of it. fuckin crazy.
I had to hit up the hydro store today to get the rest of the soil.
they make bank on shipping

Washing soil seems like a mess to me. It isn't that expensive. If you have harvested you could afford new soil right?
