Reusing Soil

I was wondering if it is possible to reuse soil after it has been used to flower with. If so, then what steps do i need to take to accomplish this.

You can bake it and all that but I just throw mine outside on my shrubs and stuff like that.
I have never tried baking it by the way and have heard it stinks. Dont know. I just chalk soil up to the cost of
growing. Plus I love that feeling and shitty smell on my hands. Reminds me of when I was young and in love.

I refuse to buy soil each year... BUT....... I also compost most household items
I take my year end soil add to a 50 gal container add some ammeded soil and grow the next year
2nd year doing this and 100% success.. have a buddy who will go out get the forrest hill or frog hill soil at 15$ per bag each year.
I spent less then 250$ per year for my grow including license.

it can be done if your willing to work at it...

I guess outdoors it would not be such an issue as long as you amended it.
I was thinking of all that work vs $30 for new soil for a small indoor grow.

all the places I have read about it evrybody will tell you not to bake it .. yes you kill all the bacteries but allso all the micro life and worst of all your house will smell realy bad .. for days ..

only way to reuse soil is to compost it .. as some said .. dont go cheap .. a littel work and you can actualy make a soil mix that is fare superior to anything you can buy at a lower or same price ..

if your the lazy kind of guy and thats mostly why .. then look in to coco fibers .. pure coco can easily be reused for years .. can just flus it after use .. can even get a small cheap bottel of some coco flush agent ..

coco schould also be easy and if you get it spot on close to hydro ..

yea outdoor is more easy .. but think about them farmers and all the trouble they go through .. switching filds evry year .. growing winther crop they just turn down in the soil for nutirnes .. adding stuff in hugh ammounts .. like lime aso ..

Im sure ther is a reason why they do that ..

i was watching a jorge cervantis vid, and he was spotlighting a buddies garden who reuses soil. He mentioned some additive that destroys the root structure so that you can reuse it. Now, I have no memory of exactly what it is he said was used, but if you watch his video the ultimate grow dvd or whatever i believe he would answer your question, as well as many other questions you dont even know you have yet. its on youtube.

If you grow organically\with the soil food web you should have no problems recycling your soil. It isn't being 'cheap' either, some amendments release nutrients for months or even a YEAR or more... much longer than your grow cycle. If you're just throwing your soil away after each grow you're just wasting money, and the environment.

You just need to separate as much of the root mass and extraneous matter as possible, you can set it out to dry along with the fan leaves from the grow and once they have dried out you cut\crumble them up really well and add them to the soil. Next add in some new amendments (these are various from meals to guanos, earthworm castings, compost, etc.) or dry organic plant food. It would also be good to spray it down with compost tea at least once or every couple weeks. Keep it moist but not too wet and leave it to cook for several weeks to a couple months.

I'm going to use them for back yard mint.

I'll dig a hole for the root ball and plant mint in it. that should give the mint a good start in the sandy soil i have here.

see I always think... the soil I can make... is always cheaper then what they can sell me :)

it's the Old Navy Brat in me... My folks were frugal and well.. some rubbed off on me.. they had me gardening at a young age and composting to me just
makes sense good for all

I do purchase and use cheapo home depot steer manure + their cheap ol soil no more then about 5 bags each but this is for my entire grow-medicinal and veggies
