Rf waves?

Ok you have to understand about the noise we are talking about here. It is in the 400mhz band. And often this band is full of noise. I know cause for my hobby (flying drones) I use this band and I constantly am looking for parts that don't make noise on this band. your tv kicks out 400mhz noise, computer ... that regulator that transforms 12v to 5v ... so many damn things. While a good ham radio guy could find you, there aren't many of those people with that skill around.

With laws changing so fast currently, I hope like hell that law enforcement have better this to do ... to protect and service (not bust and screw up people's lives). This time I'm high lol
Lol I would hope they have better things to do lol I did a radio test I can't pick up am for some reason with r without the lights on but I know for sure fm radio is affected but only inside my house in the yard it's perfect so I think I'm ok anyways

it seems what was once a rare incidence of RFI(Radio Frequency Interference)
with these 'new' digital ballasts is now a common occurrence, with many brands.
IMO, buy the lamp, test it out, if it fails send it back, get it replaced, as the static
will not only hassle the fuck outta you but also your neighbors for yards/meters
around
So now, the very same makers of this hassle have solved the issue ...for a price $30.60 and yes ....you need 2.

you cant afford another ballast .. ok ok !!!!!!! then get a card board box . on the inside of it get tin foil tape it every where ware you cant see the box and more on the out side do the same do not be stingy put it on it and a lot of it . also if your ballast does not get that hot and not fan cooled put tin foil around it 1 layer only then put the ballast in that box you decorated . this will shield the rf noise . and then second . very important . go lay on the couch and take a good nap because you can stop stressing your going to be ok .

Before I changed to LED and still used HPS I could see static appear on my TV when the lights turned on. I don't know how far the effect extended but if you have neighbors nearby they may be able to see it and might notice that it happens at the same time each day. They might also call the cable company because they think it's a problem with their cable. Anyway, just one more reason to upgrade to LED. No interference whatsoever. With the HIDs the longer the wire between the ballast and the lamp the more RF is put out so I guess you should try to have the wire as short as possible. Since it appears to be coming from the wire, I don't know if shielding the ballast would help or not. You would have to put foil around it, but not actually touching it (for safety reasons), and hook a wire from the foil to a ground.

Reviews on this thing don't look so good.
Cable dudes have been here 2 days in a row looking for the noise.
Do they really work or is it marketing?

do you really think that the police are really worrying about a grow that uses 400watts? Sure they could go around searching for rf signals. Having funky rf signals does not mean you are breaking the law. They would still need a warrant and for that they would need more than a rf signal. they would check your power ... 400watts could be anything. And really do you think the police are going to waste their time hunting down small time growers? Keep you mouth shut, tell no one and you will be fine.

lay off the weed mate, it making your head shit out paranoia.
In my town they'd absolutely bust a 400 watt grow. That being said, yeah they need more than RF to get a warrant.

Wouldn't violating FCC guidelines be enough for a warrant? Just curious?

Doubt the grounds for a warrant, but it certainly caused the cable guys to show up 2 days in a row.
Not sure if it's my ballast's or what. They unhooked a cable on the outside of the house "that was giving us trouble" and it seems that internet/cable is working properly so I don't know what the issue is.
I really don't even know if my ballast's are magnetic or digital - how do you tell?

One simple way to tell if your ballast is magnetic is.....is your ballast heavy AF!? lol? If it's super heavy it's magnetic. The magnetic ballasts have a huge transformer in them and the digital ballasts do not.

RF shouldn't affect the cable unless you have a very bad cable near the ballast. I worry more about screwing up the neighbors AM radio.

I suspect that they are magnetic - for 600 w they weigh 5 or 6 ish lbs (bought them 6 ish years ago)? They also have heat dissipating ribs along the sides and a small fan in the casing on the cord end.

No computers or phones even on the same floor of the house.

Do people even listen to am any longer?
I haven't (except by accident) in 30 years.

Edit: lotsa "Ish'es" there, sorry for my misshapen engrish.

I don't know about you, but if i found out my tax dollars were being used to shut down a 400w grow, I'd probably be at my local governments throat.
