Risk of getting a medical card?

I've been self medicating for years (mostly to treat panic attacks and anxiety) but now that I'm a resident of Michigan I've been thinking about getting my medical card and making it official (legal). The only thing I'm worried about is my career, I'm an engineer for a large international corporation. Could getting my card affect my career in any way possible? I'm just afraid of putting my name in a database somewhere labeling me as a user. :/

Thanks in advance guys.

stay small and stay legal and keep your mouth shut and you will be fine. in 4 years, 2 people, outside of my wife, know i grow/smoke. Keep it on the hush hush and you will be fine.
the problems come in when you get greedy.
cops can access the system to get your info but thats only allowed to verify if you are able to grow/possess plants.
I have been "questioned" once and that was it, I was within my limits and no usable product on hand, they said thanks and i changed my shorts.

Signing up and "going legal" is like putting a billboard up on top of your house saying "GROWING POT HERE"..... people may not agree, but I'm not telling the government anything that would enable them to come and inspect my property. Plus, if the laws change or revert back, they'll know right where to come.

If you've been smoking all these years and still have your job I wouldn't worry about a thing, except maybe a urine test but you'd have that whether you had a card or not. There isn't some big list on which all cardholders are named and this info is for the public eye, Sounds to me like you're just being paranoid.

He didn't say he was growing....... I'd rather have that card on me when the police show up then not have it at all. If the law was to change they'd still need probable cause to come into your house (ecspecially if he's only smoking). Assumptions that someone is still growing in the situation where the law was revoked is still missing the part of probable cause. It's not like google maps they can't just access the database and see who's on it that resides in their local jurisdiction. They need a name and a valid patient id # to run any check. That's why there is the option on the paperwork to not allow Leo or anyone else to enquire about the card.

And the only thing op would have to worry about is a company drug test. No one can find out you have a card outside of you, Lara and the police if you give Lara permission to disclose med info to the authorities. It won't show up on your health insurance or anything like that.

Privacy laws will make it absolutely impossible for your employer to find out, it's simply not going to happen.

Yeah I will agree I'm being paranoid, but when it comes to my career/livelihood I don't think that's such a bad thing. Thanks for all the info/advice guys :)

just for reassurance I just went through an extensive background and motor vehicle check for a job I just acquired. I have had my card for 3 years and also have been a CG the entire time. They didn't find out on the background check and they will never find out because I keep my yapper shut and I passed the drug test via powdered human urine.

Doctors have to keep your file private unless you break the law. Your job could piss test at any time. If they don't then get your card and keep t on the down low

You could go to a pot doctor and get your recommendation and not apply for the card , that way if your employer found out you were using ( surprise drug test or something ) you could at least show it was necessary for your health .

I think it is pretty clear by now that the privacy provisions of the MMMA do protect you from having your employer find out you have a card. You do have the risk of a drug test at work, in which case your card may not help you, but otherwise the only way they will find out is if you tell them yourself.

News flash homie...they do it when ever they want anyway...if your going to have the smell of a skunks ass floating out your back window you might as well get a $200 defense to go with it

Yep, they catch you without a card, you could lose your house, get a card, and it's magically no longer a dangerous drug that's going to grab some kid and hurt them.

The cops are no different than thieves. At least when it comes to the raid squad. No different than strong armed robbery...
