Rockwool germination?

I was wondering if anyone has succesfully started seedlings using rockwool, either germinating before, or not?

I'm trying to germinate the old-fashioned paper towel way, then I want to transfer seeds to rockwool around day two, to a moist 1.5 in. rockwool cube. I only have one CFL currently and a meager one at that, I don't have a heat pad either.

What I planned on doing for heat is purchasing more lights or using direct sunlight, but it is now fall and the sun sets earlier and rises later.

Any tips, on how I should propagate, I will transfer to a Stealth Hydro kit I picked up. Thnx if anyone at all replies. I know not many ppl will. : [

Once the seeds show signs of popping you should be able to transfer them to the RW. As long as they stay at room temperature or a little higher, they will do fine, just a little slower than if they were kept at 78 to 85 F. It might not be a bad idea to pick up 1 or 2 more CFLs to speed up the process though.

why mess about man. just put the seeds in a match box with sand paper and shake.
drop them in a glass a water wait for them to sink once they have done that they have soaked enough wATER TO SPROUT.
then plant them in a big pot and let them grow as for heat hot press will do while germinating. and in your grow room for the rest no need to make things more complicated or more expensive keep it simple and all will work out hopefully.

germ before and plant sprouts in 1-2days.
no nutes until second leaf set at very low strength.
humidity dome if you got one.

No dome, but I use plastic sandwhich bags opened at about 1/2 in. I know it's ghetto, but it works just like a dome. I'm only planting about 4 plants, so I figure a dome is a waste.

Thanks for the input guys, but my thing is that at room temp. the damp rockwool, just get way to cold. Should I do what simsays said "pick up 1 or 2 more CFLs to speed up the process".

Thnx again guys. : ]

I'd go around 82-84 for seedlings
get that light real close to the RW so it's not cold
more cfls couldnt hurt

You've been helping me out for weeks. I figured I'd go to the forums instead of bugging you again.

I got some Ice, some Northern lights and some mix. I ran through half of them just getting them to germ. well germ. is good I just took the DVD thing. I think they rot in RW though. I think the temp. was just to cool. I started with 40 seeds 10/10/20 now I got 10/6/7. Sucks I hope I can keep 'em going.

Well shit I've invested too much to quit now, I got books, seeds, hydro kit. I still need a light but I'm not going out 'till I get some seedlings.
