Root Bound with 3 Gal Pots?

Hello,
I am growing in soil and was wondering if 3 gal pots will cause rootbound issues and lower yield. If they were vegged for say 6 weeks then flowered for 9 weeks, would you get a much bigger yield in 5 or 10 gallon grow mediums? Im in week 6 flower right now with 10 plants under 2x600w hps and I noticed bud growth is a bit bigger in the larger pots. I guess its too late to transplant them now "/
Does anyone have any experience where they used larger pots and increased the yield much?
Thanks,

I have a buddy that uses 3 gallon pots I use 5. My buds are a bit bigger(though there are other factors other than pot size). Live and learn dude. I'm actually upping mine to 7. Don't transplant now. Use the info for your next try. Good luck bud

it all depends on how often and when you water them....I never grow in any bigger than 2.5 gallon pots I average anywhere from 5 -10 ozs

These are 5 oz plants

Holy crap that's my ultimate goal right there....I need to change my pants. Are those 1000w metal halides?
Thanks for the info, I was thinking it was all about pot size/root mass...looks like shorter plants with more branches are the wtg,

from my experience the larger pots will give you a larger harvest but are harder to manage so you can fit less of them in an area which is good when plant count becomes an issue.

It depends on the variety too. Sativa leaning hybrids will veg a bit longer after the switch to 12/12 and tend to be hungrier overall. The indica leaning varieties tend to be lighter feeders and maybe you can get away with less medium and benefit from a longer veg time. And of course there will exceptions to those guidelines.

I use 5 gallon buckets with about 4 gallons of organic soil. I get up to 4 zips per bucket for the biggest yielders but 2-3 zips is more common. I am testing a few 5 gallon fabric pots to see how they compare to the buckets.

Also depends on whether using a grow medium or hydro.

I just finished > 200gm plant in a 4 liter (1g) Air Pot

I use polished ornamental stones (Dollar store) for the medium, which allows me to feed every ~ 30 minutes

I usually grow in 3-gallon pots. I've tried 5 and 7-gallon pots, but there wasn't any discernible difference in yields. I imagine if you were wanting to veg them for a really long time before flowering then it might well make a difference, but otherwise why use more soil/nutrients than necessary?

I grow in 3 gallon fabric pots in coco-coir right now but I would like to move to 5 gal's. I had been using 10 gal's and vegging longer but I have a smaller growing area now and can't have 7 footers anymore :( My 3 gal plants never get root bound, it would take forever to get a plant root bound in a fabric pot because of the air pruning you would need to veg for like 4 months or more and even then it would depend on the strain.

Agree on this one I was essentially going to post the same thing about fabric pots, I switched to them last round, used 3Gal and one plant ended up being about 42", no problems with root binding but the roots filled the pot, like one big cylinder of roots when I pulled it out. Going with 5gal fabric pots going forward, no plans to switch away from fabric pots, they're staying in my room. Even planted 3x 7Gal pots outdoor and theose plants are monsters. idk if the 5Gal's are needed for up to 3ft, even 4ft plants but I like to give them some space and the 5gal pots aren't that much bigger in the fabric pots. Not like there's a huge difference in price and they're re-usable.

yep mh all the way ....no hps period....lemon skunk cloned for the past 2 years above

heres pre 98 bubba 4 ozs per average :) cloned for the past 10 years

and a 10 oz plant in 3 gallon...lemon shunk

................Here's that same lemon skunk strain... I entered in a party cup competition & WON 40 gs
