root problems

I recently changed the water after a lil more than 2 weeks and a couple days later I noticed this ugly, brownish goop-looking stuff on the roots. Can I get some advice on how to treat this please? thanksphoto-23.jpg

Hey, u have many options when it comes to keeping a healthy root system as there is not substitute for preventative measures. It is important to clean ur res every 1-2 weeks when changing solution.

Res Cleaning Product-HTH Shock-N-Swim

brown slime algae(Cyanobacteria)-USE *IN RES---SM-90, Zone
Also root can be sprayed with 3% H2O2, next use 30% H2O2 in ur solution

These are a few options u may implement...I like the proactive approach to try to avoid the problem from the start.

Aquashield is a great product mix it into your res with a little bit of Sweet. And spray it on the roots, the pythium will be gone in a day. Some people prefer to use H202 or Hygrozyme, any will do.

Search "How to grow beneficial microbes" on the hydro forum. I'm soil but found it while researching.

H202 is poison! Physan 20 does the same and it breaks down into nitrogen that you're plants can use. aqua shield is watered down physan 20, it costs more too.

check out the link:

once you clear up the slime you might want to use some superthrive to help your plant get back on track.

h2o2 works great. also super cheap and available.
i use it all the time. just use a little bit at a time, it just takes like a day or so to degrade into h2o and oxygen. so apply more in two days if problem isn't fixed.

I clean my res totally every 5-7 days when I change the water. I have two sediment traps. One in my lower res and one in my upper res. The top tank gets a piece of rubber hose that raises the drain by 2.5 inches and in the lower res the pump is raised my 4 inches.

It kills all the benificial microbes your plants need and thrive from. Cheap yes, but who says cheaper is better. Quality comes from reserch and experence. Physan 20 is made for plants and gardens, H202 is not. Physan 20 is stable and cannot build up over time or leave resedue. H202 will sterilize your root system and possibly last longer than necessary or expected.
