Replaced the water last night in my 3.5 gal bubble boy that I picked up from HTG Supply. I dropped the plant into another bucket with cold water out of the tap that I let sit for a few hours.

I scrubbed my bucket with bleach and soap, rinsed well, replaced the water with more water I had let sit for a few hours. Added nutes, balanced the Ph, water level was up to the net so I poured some out. Left the level probably half inch below net pot...

Its been 24 hours since the change, I took a look at the roots and this is what I saw! :O. I gently caressed the roots and the water ran down my fingers and had brown little specks in it.

As I was closing up after taking these pictures, I also saw a very tiny little worm thing crawling on the wall -_- I have no idea wtf it was or how it got in there.

The roots were a beautiful white last night, also they were all stretched out long touching the bottom of the bucket, now they are all bound up. Whats up with that?

So - any suggestions?

I have some questions, how long can roots be out of the water?

How much light can they take? I was under the impression they are never allowed to see light of day until recently.

I would like to take the plant into my kitchen and spray the roots off. Is that okay? Would obviously be tap water.

Thank you for any insight.

Alright, I figure there is no time to wait so I took the whole system to the kitchen, rinsed the roots off cleaned the bucket with soap and water, refilled with cold water, and put it back together.

No time for the chlorine to escape, and no PH balance, or added Nutes. Going to let it sit and see how it does.

I inspected the water closely, I didn't see any more worms. I am not sure what that was - possible fly laid an egg or something.

Still would like any suggestions.

Well, i've been using them for 2 weeks now, and yes they make the water brown, but they never seem to coat the roots like this. It was slimey - something was off. No growth at all in the last 24 either.

But I hope it is just from the nutes! :D

Also I see every one elses roots and they are all so white... Since mine have been white - and all the sudden are brown I was worried.

I am using Advanced Nutrients - Sensi Grow A + B

How do the plants look?
What are the water temps in your bucket?
Do you have an air stone in the res?

Plant looks great, water temps average about 70 degrees, and I do have an air stone yes.

If your plants look good and are growing I would just keep an eye on them and make sure they look healthy

Found another bug in the water! Different than the last one, I know its a bit hard to see - wtf is it. And where the fuck is it coming from!?

Found out I was underfeeding her by Half! She also just started drinking water last night, up until now almost no water was taken up.

Great growth over night! I also had it too close to the light as pointed out by flowamasta so I have lowered the plant to let the UV do its work!

more than likely your roots is where it came from. I can't tell wtf it is , picture is way too blurred. whatever it is it would be best to get a handle on it. I've been trying this stuff called sns209, it's nothing more than a rosemary oil systemic . after you kill whatever it is off with something else I think it makes a nice preventative used along side something else of course.

I killed him... I have been putting frozen water bottles in the rez since last night, that should help a little not a sauna in there anymore! I am going to wash the roots and the res again probably monday but keep an eye on it until then.

I will look into that thank you. God damn bugs! lol

You need beneficial microbes and fungus in your root system. I had this problem then used voodoo juice, tarantula, pirahna, and sensizym all from Advanced Nutrients. It fixed the problem almost overnight.

Now this is what my root system looks like.... You can make your own root "tea" but I found it better to use the products that had been produced by professionals. You will need at least 8 oz of voodoo juice for the duration of your grow (got mine on ebay from someone that sold it in smaller increments) but you can get away with only a few ounces of pirahna and tarantula. Sensizym is fairly cheap so I bought a liter of that. I think a healthy root system makes it less appealing to pests that may want to snack on your roots.

One more thing... when you have beneficial microbes, enzymes, and fungus, you will not need to clean your reservoir as much because the microbes etc eat all the bad stuff and turn it into stuff the plant can use. You will still need to change your water to keep the nutes from getting too out of balance, just not as often.

I used 2ml of voodoo per liter with the new formula. The old formula was like 8 oz per gallon. (The troll that said there is a sucker born every minute is probably talking about the price...I know the stuff works but if you want a cheaper method... they are definitely out there. Just going by what I use.) If you want to go cheaper, you could probably do without the piranha and tarantula but I don't know what your results will be.

It would be nice if people that have criticism would not just post vague blanket statements but rather come up with some examples of evidence to back them...
