Root Training

I wonder if roots can be trained for more vigorous/explosive growth? I have two lines of thought on this... one is does trimming the roots make the roots bush out or grow more of them similar to topping... Most of us in DWC at least have had root rot and dead roots damp off and then new pristine white roots blow up everywhere out of necessity. I know there has been some debate as to whether root pruning is beneficial, but I have never tried it except when treating root rot.

The second thought is, would water current strengthen the roots and make them thicker and so able to uptake more nutes... the same way air currents cause branches to get thicker/stronger? If so, this would give a huge boost to undercurrent DWC with turbulent air stones in every bucket over most other methods of hydro.

Not sure about training the roots but you don't need big roots for a big plant. You'll be surprised to see how big of a plant you can grow in a 4x4" cube.
