roots on surface of soil

hey everyone, so a strange thing has been happening and i'm not too sure if i should be worried or not. The roots from my plants seemed to have grown upwards as well this time and they are not even a centimeter underneath the top layer of soil. Whenever i water them i can see thick roots..they are also a greenish colour which i know is not good. I've read that roots being to exposed to light (i'm running a 400 hps) can create problems. So i decided to transplant..although they have more soil ontop of them now its still very close to the surface. Any thoughts?

just cover them up with soil from the top of your pots...or add soil to cover them. No big deal
