hey lemon,dont worry roots like to explore its ok if they are poking out it doesnt seem like its big enough to be root bound.sometimes if the top part of your soil is dry all the time the roots wont grow upwards and fill the whole pot which makes it seem like its root bound just keep the top moist but be careful and not over water you just want the roots to know hey there is water close to the top too, lets travel there and not get all cluttered at the bottom.ive had this same problem and couldnt afford bigger pots at the time. the pots i was using were clear on the bottom so i could see what the water situation was like on the bottom while i kept the top moist.anyways it worked after a couple of days my roots started growing up and filling the whole pot.sorry for blabbing so much. hope i could help.
