hey all,

today i lifted my plants pot up, and noticed in the drainage holes, i have 2-3 roots starting to come out of each hole.

does this mean its starting to get rootbound?
what should i do? transplant?

the plant is young, just 3 weeks old. it is 8 inch tall,
i am not to sure about what size the pot is, i would have to guess 4 liters

any advise would be helpful,
thanks.

Nah, it may not mean that it's rootbound. Root follow the water and sometime the taproot will stretch all the way to the bottom of the pot. If you want you just pull the plant up and check. It'll be pretty obvious if it's rootbound.

Nah i think you could leave it a bit longer 8inch plant in four liter pot all good roots tend to go for drain holes what strain are you growing??

thank you for the replies,

my strain is nirvana northen lights autoflower.

should i just leave the roots sticking out of the drain holes then? or what should i do?

thanks :)

^Yeah, just leave the roots alone, they will 'prune' themselves. Pretty much, no matter what size pot you use, the roots will always seek out the drainage holes, eventually. That's normal. You got aways to go before you have to worry about being rootbound, from the sounds of it. Hard to say, without pics, but I'm rather certain you're safe for a few more weeks.

i think it's good in that size pot for a while. i've read that if you start in a large container (did you start her in this size?), the roots grow downward. that's why people gradually go from smaller to larger containers.

you can tell if you need to repot if the soil gets dry very quickly or if the stem feels loose in the soil. a mature plant generally needs 3+ gallon. My sativa is 4 feet tall and in a 6 gallon and i think she'd be better in something a bit larger but i can't repot now as she is well into flowering.

Repot that baby in like 3 weeks into a bigger pot and you wont regret it.
Treat your plants right and they will treat you good in return!

:joint:

thank you for all the replies guys.

i decided to repot it yesterday, because its a autoflower, and its in its 3rd week, and from what i have read it should start flowering soon,
so i decided to repot it, so i would not stress it while its in flower.

i think i may of stress the plant abit, it was the first time i have repotted anything lol,
but i can see new growth this morning so i think all is well :)

If it's an auto-flower then you should plant it in the last pot it's going in from the beginning. Autos don't handle stress well at all and simple transplanting can shock it for weeks that you don't have. Any more than 5 gallons for an auto is a waste. I'd say 3 gallons even.
