I moved the plants around a little so you can see the two "nice" C99 ladies side by side:

The foremost bud on the left if my grapefruit pheno-it's a bit smaller, much denser, better bud to leaf ratio, and has many times more the # of stigmas, which makes me a bit concerned about bud rot for it. So I've lowered my RH to 45%, though it ranges from 50-55% around the buds. Within one day of lowering it by 5% a lot of my leaf tips began curling upward. It pushed my VPD just out of where I like it. Kind of frustrating, but I'm keeping it at 45% for now.

Next two are my grapefruit pheno.

The Corn Steep Liquor is super acidic due to the lactic acid it contains, which is produced by bacteria during the fermentation process (making ethanol) so even just adding 2 grams to my 3 gallon buckets reduces my need for PH down (citric acid) significantly. I used to use around 1/4 teaspoon Citric Acid per 3 gallons of nutrient, but now it's more like a pinch. I was curious about the effect of Lactic Acid on plant growth, since it's replacing my citric acid which has been shown to have biostimulant properties in plants. So I did a quick search and found this study https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7270406/
It actually looks at the effect of lactic and citric acid on soil microorganisms. These organisms thrive in the presence of lactic acid, which makes sense, since they also produce it, but basically the study shows an increase in the rhizobacteria population with the addition of lactic acid. I think this is one reason why the CSL works so well even in supplemental amount's.

Good luck on those Black Friday seed and gear deals everyone!

7 weeks-I think the seeded Sweet Tooth buds are the ones going really foxtail crazy.

Here is another-I like the very large white hairy stigmas on these "toofs"

20221126_050210.jpg

Not a lot of obvious change going on, just lots of swelling. Also, the 2 C99 females that my friend kept, which looked very unimpressive at first and I probably would have culled them...well they have started to look pretty darn good. I don't have any pics of them, but they are looking a lot like my "other" c99 than my grapefruit pheno. The funny thing is, the one that looked the worst is swelling so fast I think it will have the biggest buds of any of these. That one smells lemony and doesn't have much frost, but you just never know how a plant will smoke, sometimes those ugly ducklings turn out to be real gems. My friends 2nd c99 has the big spear shaped buds but is developing more late frost than the other 2 similar phenos. So honestly, you can't go wrong with a pack of FDM c99-one keeper with just amazingly potent terps, plus 3 high yielding, very tasty smelling plants that I bet will be quite good.

If I had any seed money left this month I would take advantage of the FDM BOGO going on now. I still want his Durban Highflyer.

I think I already mentioned I picked up a 2nd pack of Drawoh's Chocolate Thai from Hazeman....well, I couldn't resist going through my personal favorite seedbanks just to see what is on sale, so I also picked up the Blackbird Preservations Lemon Thai at Seeds Here Now, which is from Dutch Flowers stock (like the Choc Thai). Not a bad score, 2 old Dutch Flowers strains for about $100 total. They were one of my favorite Dutch Breeders in the 90s, and both their Chocolate Thai and Lemon Thai are so good, I'm glad to have them back!

Here are two phenos of C99:

This is my Grapefruit pheno, definitely on the short flowering side of Cindy. These are right around 7 weeks

20221129_045008.jpg
Same pheno-it's swelling and frosting up really fast right now.

I let this plant grow up too close to the light because I wanted to see at what distance the light stress would start. Once I figured it out, I moved it off to the side a bit. This plant had very little frost until this point, but now it's really blowing up and I think it will end up being killer bud.

My favorite was the grapefruit pheno. But the mango was awfully nice too :) Looking good.

I like Mango terps too! I used to get great mango Thai from an old hippy. I like this grapefruit though, it's so sweet smelling, and the funny thing is, the Sweet Tooth also smells like grapefruit, but it's such a dry grapefruit smell...but they combine together to really freshen up my house lol

I've heard a lot of good stuff about Sweet Tooth. I'm just a sucker for grapefruit.

I just took a few quick flash pics this morning of the Cindies. They are starting to fill out nicely, and I'm looking forward to comparing Cindy phenos "soon!" The Grapefruit pheno will be the first to ripen. The leaves were perfect until I lowered my Dehumidifier to 45%. We've had really colder than usual temps outside, so it's just easier to deal with 45% (50% around the canopy usually) with moisture on windows and doors, but the problem is, my new dehumidifier works too well and it pumps out way more heat than my last model, despite using close to the same watts. I woke up the other night and it was 84 degrees in the room lol. Now my leaves are showing the high VPD, but it usually doesn't hurt anything at this stage, and I think it will be helpful with "big fat colas" in terms of botrytis development. Although, RH near 40% is the most ideal for powdery mildew growth, so lower it to avoid grey mold and you have to watch out for PM, decisions, decisions!! It's interesting how big a difference 5% RH makes to leaf health.
