If folks found out that the 2 were working together they would steer clear since we all know what brought the 25 mile rule to AZ..(MPP)

Safer AZ says :
"We receive no funds from the sale of that book."(link below)
"They didn't write our measure."
"They don't fund us, they support 2016 not 2014."
"The book has a good message and we share the safer message."

BAAAAAAA BBAAAAAAA!

It is a great cover... (authored by MPP folks)

My name is Dave Wisniewski. Safer Arizona is not SAFER but is inspired by the movement. I am in the US Army and a pro pot activist. I was stationed in Washington where I was introduced to Sensible Washington and a man named Jared Allaway. Jared had led teams of protesters wearing shirts that "marijuana is safer than alcohol" I had realized Arizona wasnt protesting and the reform was slow so I decided to invent a protest group called Safer Arizona. I made the Facebook page and started friend requesting people who liked the pics on the az mmj facebook pages. It was a good place to find pro pot Arizonians. I told them I would send them free Safer Shirts if they wore them in public. I got a few people interested . Living in Washington I saw how the ballot initiative that sensible Washington worked. I figured if these people would wear the shirts then they might be willing to collect signatures too. So I emailed Phoenix Norml and asked if anyone currently had a measure or was going to introduce soon. They hooked me up with Dennis Bohlke who is a small buisness owner of super-tech.com who was a month away of submitting a measure modeled after the Colorado measure. He took suggestions and imput for a whike before he submit it so it would cater to Arizonians. He was going to call it"pathway to legalization" but seeing what I was doing we decided to team up and call it Safer Arizona. We went to the MPP and NORML and asked for support and funding. They rejected us because tbey had their eyes on 2016. So we pursued completely run off volunteers and donations. 100% organic grass roots. Inspired by Safer Choice in a few ways but not being supported or affiliated . Any questions email me. Safer.Arizona@gmail.com or call my Skype 480-409-1699. Im in south korea till feb or march then ill be living in gilbert.

I am boggled that when I talked about the Cons of this measure with you folks [need not naming] I was shunned and threatened with a slander lawsuit...

Read it and Weap! I agree that marijuana is safer than alcohol but I disagree that it shall be treated the same.

Just another non-partisan measure that will not fly in AZ. I would be surprised to see the signatures collected in time.

Come 2016 MMP should face the same problem that this measure faces... AZ is against new regulations and taxes.

Safer AZ Tax

15% until 2025
This tax will be in addtion to the 3 taxes currently on retail products. (City, County, & State)

(1) City Tax (Depends on City)
(2) County Tax (Depends on County)
(3) State Tax (Uniform through-out)
(4) Safer Tax 15%

Example: (State of Arizona + Maricopa County + City of Phoenix= 8.3% tax + Safer Tax 15% = 23.3% tax on retail marijuana)
In Phoenix a $100 retail purchase would amount to $123.30. Where does this Safer Tax go? To the Arizona Department of Health Services (conflict - AMMA Program & Liquor Board retail marijuana)

I see your point HB and it makes sense. However, I don't think any legalization/decriminalization measure is going to pass here in AZ without some level of tax being applied. I like how Colorado accomplished this and tied the first $40MM (?) in Marijuana Tax to Education and how the CO also allows for home cultivation. Essentially making it impossible for the Feds to stop or intervene.

We are going to have to compromise somewhere in order to get the votes. One big reason why most people think Marijuana should be legalized is because of the tax benefit to society - even most Republicans seem to agree with "Sin Taxes". We all want to live in a world where Marijuana users and cultivators don't face the threat of prison every day.

I would have been 100% ok with the tax revenues going to schools or roads or something but the Arizona Department of Health Services? Why? (Conflict between the AMMA Program and the retail marijuana shops ran by the Liquor board) Why would the tax revenues go to Arizona Department of Health Services? Makes zero sense.
