You can buy the real plant at stores like Lowe's. Any store with a decent nursery should have Salvia. A local nursery would be a great bet too.

If you are expecting to smoke the leaves, don't get your hopes up. Just smoking leaves directly off the plant (with no extractions) only tastes awful and does not make you trip. In order to get enough to smoke, you would have to buy SEVERAL plants and extract the psychoactive.

If you want them just for aesthetics, then go for it. Don't expect a great experience smoking the leaves from a plant that you got at Lowe's though.

However, if you REALLY want something that you could trip on, most nurseries (and Lowe's) should sell a San Pedro Cactus and/or Peruvian torch. These two contain mescaline, the psychoactive substance in Peyote. Buy a couple of these and make yourself a mescaline shake. You should have better results with that.

Woodsman, I mean no disrespect (as I do respect your advice in general), but once again, I have to repeat myself. The "Salvia" you buy in stores is not the same as "Salvia Divinorum". Just because it names it as "Salvia" means nothing. Salvia officinalis is just a decorative accent plant for gardens. While there is some evidence that it is BARELY psychoactive, it does not contain salvinorin-A, the psychoative molecule in divinorum. If there is a psychoative effect beyond placebo, what produces it is unknown, as it has not been researched.

Smoked leaves of Sally-D will produce an effect, if the leaves contain an average concentration of salvinorin-A and you're willing to smoke a lot. It might not do much, but if you know what you're doing, you can get effects from it. Your body can only metabolise so much smoked material at a time, so make sure it is potent enough. Leaves are traditionally ingested orally (eaten, like by the Mazatecs), and can have long-lasting and powerful effects. When smoked, however, it has a short duration, and thus, more salvinorin-A needs to be taken in a short amount of time to concentrate beyond the blood-brain barrier. Hence all of the extracts available and the preference for fortified leaf among growers.
