Scoooby doobie doooo

Sorry for the odd and abrupt statement .. I'm really fucking cooked .....

I was a Scooby addict as a kid....When I was 2 and my parents started to try and explain the concept of time they couldn't find anything that regularly occurred in my life that was a 'fixed' duration to use as a 'base' for conceptual time.

We were on a road trip to my grandmothers house and I asked how long a drive it was and the reply of 8 hours meant nothing to me. My mom had the idea to break it down to 'Scooby Doo's' representing a half hour. Having sat through entire days of Scooby, 16 scooby doo's sounded like a good time and I shut up the entire trip ... For almost a year that was 'standard' and then it became a family joke that lives on to this day ...

If I make a statement about something lasting too long my wife and she'll reply, 'Don't worry it's only 6 scoobies long.' Why do mothers do that to a guy??

Damn thing will never die, but to this day I'm a huge Scooby fan. Throw that in with the Muppets and we have a party IMO.

That 70's Show is a damn good show to watch high too, but nothing could beet Scooby.

Dr Bunsen and his assistant beaker!

I never thought much of the Muppet Show until college. They ran it late at night on Nickelodeon and it was great to watch as an insomniac. 99% of the humor would be lost on your average kid, it was really an adult variety show.

I'm slowly converting the entire series to Mpeg so I can watch it on my television. Right now all I have is AVI format and for some reason that will not play via Windows Media Center. It's a long boring process but I can't wait to have the entire series on the network so I can watch it.

The best part of it is knowing in the 'adult' jokes in it. I watched the first season and the very first episode they do a song called "Mahna Mahna."

The funny thing about the song is that it was originally written for a forgein film that was, for it's time, a borderline porn. When it debuted as a parody on the Muppet Show, which everyone was expecting to be a kids show, parents were outraged that a kids show would feature a song from a porn. The entire series had to do a serious 'we are for adults' campaign to stay on the air after the first episode. The network originally thought that since it didn't come on until 9pm that people would understand that it was for adults.

Throughout the entire series there's a whole slew of 'inside' jokes that are meant specifically for adults, granted 1970's adults, but some of the humor still holds true today.

It got much worse as time went on (pun not intended I promise) when were in high school my parents were a little too aware for me to us the 'standard' slang for getting high. My mom knew all of the slang and code phrases that were remotely common. The stores had come out with a cookie called, "Scooby Snacks" and being the fanboy that I am I practically got them by the truckload and always had some of them with me (I couldn't tell her but they were my munchies cure.) Anyway, my friends and I decided that since we always had Scooby Snacks that our parents would not be surprised to hear us talking about getting some.

So our code for 'Let's go get fried' was 'Man I need some Scooby Snaks.' Eventually my mom caught on and we had to find a new way to communicate, but to this day if I don't know the strain but it's excelent MJ, I still use 'Scooby Snacks.'

It seems perfectly obvious that it SHOULD be a euphemism for MJ. Shaggy and Scooby were always paranoid, seeing ghosts, zoneing out on some pretty tame stuff, and never could shake the munchies. When things wore off they got tired. There's a reason as to why every once in a while green smoke would pour out of the back of the Mystery Machine. (At least that's my theory.)

This is going to sound incredibly 'old' of me, but I really do not get what's on TV today. I don't find 99% of it funny or entertaining. There was something more sophisticated about the humor from the mid 70's to the mid 90's.

Animaniacs and Tiny Toons were all but 30 minute acid trips without the acid, if you added it they got even more interesting. I've started watching more and more stuff from not only when I was a kid but from before as well. Our parents, almost your grandparents, had some GREAT stuff on TV that was so funny it hurt. The more I watch the classics the harder and harder it is for me to watch modern TV, the quality and writing really has gone to hell over the last 30 years.

There are a few great late 50's and early 60's jokes that revolve around marijuana and durring that time when most people believed the MJ was the evil weed, they still had a good sense of humor about it, it kind of paved the way for Cheech and Chong since it was okay for shows of the 50's and early 60's to do humorous things with marijuana users. The difference between then and now is that it's more obvious on TV now. You always know when the 70's Show kids are getting high in the basement, in the classic shows you had to figure it out.

There's every possibility you'll be saying the same thing about modern stuff in a decade, but I find it very difficult to appreciate most things out today.

thats mine and sampsons theories too man i think its like your muppets scooby doo has a ton of underlying sub plots and hidden jokes dude if you watch cartoons for like 6 to 12 year olds that shit has alot of hidden inuendo and jokes that to kids its jus something the cartoon said to an adult its like holy shit that didnt jus happen lol

I started to give up on kids programs being fun for everyone around the time of the telli-tubbies. I don't even know what kids watch today, last time I was up at 6 AM on Saturday I was recovering from one hell of a party and not in the mood to watch TV, all I wanted to do was sleep :).

your right about the old shows.. they just have a quality that new tv lacks.. maybe it is all the under lying humor.... and the adult jokes that would go over kids heads.. but tv, for the most part now and days, is weak, at best, in comparison to old tv... i miss my childhood tv.... im only 25 and im tired with most things on tv anymore myself.... there are something worth watching dont get me wrong.. but a good 80 to 90 percent of tv was just thrown on to make a quick buck, without any thought of what a show should be... its all "commercial" viewing...

you guys are exactly rite tho i love the older shows and i grew up with aniamaniacs and the angry beavers(my fav by far) but yeah the older ones have more substance the new shows are jus a byproduct of america becoming more desenstized and morally corrupt... and not to mention retarded as hell lol if they had the jokes hidden in the show they would't get ratings jus because the simple fact that 70% of americans are in fact simple..... damn you pokemon:cuss:

angry beavers was great.. i still have to say ren and stimpy were amongst my top favorites tho... those two and their crazy antics.. now that was a cartoon show they should have NEVER put on a kids station.. that was WAY WAY too adult to be on nickelodeon..

and your right.. people wouldnt get the hidden meaning behind things anymore.. everything is face value only.. there is just no substance to tv, or much or anything, anymore... its all gone to hell

Three major reasons for all of the above ... and I actually started to see it in my generation back in the mid - late 80's..

Day care: Day care employees use temporary fixes for 'problem' kids that don't teach them anything or allow them to learn. Their job is to insure the kids go home happy and healthy, that's it. We all should be required to learn hard lessons through sheer ignorance and child-stupidity that makes us step back and say, "I really shouldn't do that again." (See jumping off the roof with a makeshift parachute.) My grand feat was to tie everything that resembled a rope in my house together and string it from my patio to my neighbors patio. I then constructed a rudimentary pulley system that would allow me to 'fly' like Superman. That's what my parents got for letting me watch a show on how they made Superman fly in the movies. (Another story that will be attached to me until the grave.)

Dual Income requirement: I could go on an 80 page diatribe about this, but in short the requirement of both parents being required to work in able to feed their family has caused a moral cavity in our society that is gradually getting worse. Parents on the whole aren't teaching morality any more, they expect the schools, churches and day cares to do it. Churches fail miserably because they use 'lessons' from over 2000 years ago as a basis for morality and they 'twist' those morals to meet their social and political goals (don't kid yourself every church has 'goals' in some form.) Schools try and try and try, but they don't have the man power and the government keeps getting in the way of what school personnel can and can't do. Day cares simply don't care, they only want the $300 - $1000 a month from the parents, and as long as the kid comes home alive the parents are willing to pay for these 'parenting' services.

Schools: Schools used to be a place of education, now they're a political tool which allows politicians to be elected / re-elected. Standardized testing doesn't teach kids anything other than how to pass the test, and it is also used as a 'community IQ test' by the politicians so they can draw congressional voting districts the insure that they candidate the way to win does. Ever wonder why your polling place changes from election to election, that is why.

We have become a society that is ruled by money and power. Those who have it manipulate the rest of us in order to keep it, and that includes using our children to do so. The media re-enforces this with intellectually devoid shows for kids that provide nothing positive in the means of 'doing no harm.' So we have children taught nothing by any of their potential 'mentors' and it will eventually destroy our society if we don't find a more expedient way to do so.

yep apparently learning by mistake went out the window along time ago lol

and i agree with the parents being damn retards now expecting to be able to pay some one for child rearing (basically) lol
and the standardized tests are bullshit you have to have it to graduate and its funny i took it 4 years ago and got commended status on every subject the exit test is a joke plain and simple and for the kids that don't pass it are marked as remedial its very discouraging for the students who are took out of electives and placed into a class with the future of Americas gas station attendants and fast food prep workers its really sad how test scores can affect someones future as much as it really does

America is on a gruesome path , Rome fell, the Egyptians fell , the myans fell, America will fall too and be replaced in time simple as that

oh and the superman thing lmao i wanna try that maybe a zip line or something
