Screwy Mother Water Cycle

My mother had been lighting up from a dark shade of vibrant green to a more subtle light green. I thought increasing nutrients on this cycle would work.I was using the purified drinking water and some brita filtered hardwater for the minerals. I mixed it all together in a gallon 1 part tapwater 2 parts drinking water. i measured the ppm... 020. I add in 2 tablespon unsulphured molasses and mix it up, the ppm goes to only a 34. I add Vitagrow Dry Part A and B giving 5 TIMES the nutrients the boxs recommend. After 5 days the plant looks really amazing again. Just wondering how lucky I was that it benefitted my plant so well overloading nutrietns like that?
