Scrog Material Recommendations

Hello, everyone. I need to scrog my 4x2 area. I have a pvc frame chicken wire thing I made, but have come to understand that that is not the ideal material.

Can someone suggest something sturdy, preferably a rubber coated metal gate? Where to get those?

And does anyone know what the optimal recommended hole size is on the screen?

Thanks!

I haven't done scrog yet, but from what I understand you want the holes to be about 2"
material doesn't really matter as it's just a means to direct the growth.

Hi. Thanks. I was looking at poly-coated wire mesh and the larger 2" holes do makes sense.

good day there, here be some basic info for you....

there is no specific size for the spacing you use for "Trelis" (plastic coated screen)
Scrog goes under a simple concept, fit alot of plants in a small space, Therefore, the main stems won't be able to grow as thick and sturdy as needed to support the plant vertically, therefor you need some form of trelise to support the big branch's/buds from falling over, size don't matter except making sure it's as big as your table.

i grow scrog, i have try'd many things (chicken wire and what not) and have found you just need something to keep the main bud upright.
i use a Home made bamboo trelise on one table and the other is home made out of Electrical wire! (the stuff in your wall)(both made to the table size and holes)

wich ever direction you choce to go, remember it must be thin enough NOT to interupt the light below it

Thanks for kicking in. I've seen a different method of successful scrogging here at RIU that involves just one very thick-stemmed plant. The screen is used more as a barrier to uniformly keep the main stalk and all its sub-stalks growing at the same light level rather than a means to support top-heavy smaller stalks of more numerous smaller plants in a more traditional screen of green. The "one big tree" growing horizontally under a strong metal screen is something that would apply ideally to my system as I'm accustomed to growing only two very large plants at a time.

Razor wire should keep the bitches in check..................

Or you could use an elasticated net from the back of a Land Rover 4x4. Should cover about 8x4' once fully stretched.

That is excellent! Thanks!

What material is a that string?
i believe it is nylon. im sure anything that wont fall apart in water will do. if u get string that stretches, the screen will have a good amount of give. im not sure if u should have it tight or loose, so pick your string according to what u want

Hey lordjin.

I recently had to do an emergency SCROG to a White Widow clone that was out of control. I had it in a closet awaiting my friends grow room to finish up the last grow. I had to keep topping her to keep her in check from getting to big. Anyway she had 12 branches and they were falling all over the place. We tried using a tomato cage, but it didn't work. So I cut a piece of that green coated garden fence with 2x3 holes. made it 24x18 and wove the branches through it. It took very well and is doing fine now. Buds are every where and none are more than a 6 inch height difference from the screen. It was done a little late, flowering had already started, but still came out good.

Nice. I'll look into a similar material.

Hi, sleezy. Yeah, there's an OSH near here. Gotta go to the hardware store again... urgh. It's kinda hard to get off your ass and start a new grow when you still have plenty of weed.

you sir, are reffering to SoG as ScroG is ideally fewer plants, popularly topped, fimmed, or lst'd through a screen weaving a bud site to each square thus creating a screen of green. not a sea of green. just clearin that up :D good to see a future scrogger, and i would try for garden/construction safety or snow fencing from home depot or lowes or local hardware shops. or string up your own with hemp string or something :D good luck and good day! love peace and chicken grease!

here is a pic of the scrog, it was loaded with buds like in the other pic. This is some grade A smoke. Not much of a day time do thing pot. More for like chilling after dinner. And it is really good to mix with other strains when twisting one up. I have rolled some really potent blends.
I can see why they cross White Widow with so many strains.

Yeah, I just installed a PVC frame with a screen material that looks very similar to that. Good lookin' out.

We had to do the scrog as an emergency measure. It is still hard to convince my partner it is probably the best method for utilizing space for a small grow. I like the way most buds get an equal shot at the light. The WW we harvested had buds that were all close to the same size and maturity. Makes for a nice harvest.
