Scrog Outside?

Hey all,
Part of my growing area this spring is slightly vulnerable to prying eyes (Thieves). I plan to put 3 large girls here, in big holes and great soil. If I can keep them about 4 feet, they will be nearly invisible. Has any one tried bending a plant to horizontal at about 18 inches, then training at that height for the duration of the grow? Will this limit yield or improve it due to more even light penetration? I'm aiming for 1.5 - 2lbs per.

P.S.
I know I could just plant 10 4 footers there and get more but I'm in a friendly state and have to keep the numbers down.

love your name hopsnmalt. Are you a home brewer? But yes you could probably get away with an 18 inch bend, What type of fence/screen are you going to use for this? I once tried this outdoor same exact thing but a little less bend, got a plant stolen from me but they didnt find the other ones. You better make sure your plants are off the beaten trail if your in cali, Because some of these kids are FUCKIN ASSHOLES!!!

scrog works great outside. i did it last year and did over a pound a plant easy with about a 4 x 4 foot screen for each plant. what strains are you growing, some will not tolerate the high stress training as others. i just used 2"x2"'s for the frame and some metal fencing with 2"x4" squares. the screens were all about 12" from the plant medium although you could give them a little more room so you dont have to lay in the dirt while you trim up the under side. you should consider the strain and weather when deciding how to fill your screen up. if it is a heavy indy i would leave it a little more spread out for more air flow and to allow more light into the plant. white widow seemed to handle packed tight. the biggest challeng you might have is just timing everything right. i don't know if you have ever scrogged before but if you let your plants get thru the screen to early, before they begin to flower, they can shoot up and eliminate the purpose of the screen.

Ha Firstime...I would trade my name (and a nut) for an hour with your avatar :)

Yeah, I'm an old beermaker, winemaker, whatever i can do myself better or for less.

I am planning on using a large piece of 6x6 concrete wire about 18 - 20" off the ground, then weaving the growing tip through it. These plants would easily hit 10+ feet if grown straight up, so you think I'll be able to get 10 feet horizontally?

Definitely off the beaten path but I have one vantage point that might give a glimpse if they get much above 4 feet.

Certainly aware of Asshole kids; I've been clipped before at a less secure location....THE DAY OF HARVEST!!!

I remember when I was a kid, If I was to walk across I plant which I have I would pick it up. Times change, And once your the grower last thing you want is stolen plants. I used to brew for a company, But now do homebrewing, I also make wine, Hard Ciders of different types etc.

I just found this is some kids sig, and I'm still laughing.
Illiterate i am... I'm still learning this human group of symbols you call words, I feel honored to be given the name of a bag you call Douch

Anyways, it sounds like you got it all figured out. Don't get caught!

Thanks for the info Robertpaulson,
The strain is Power Africa: Skunk/Haze/Durban. Should get big and heavy. I have other choices, but I expect these to be the tallest so the idea stemmed from there. Hope I'm on the right track.... that's why I'm here.

Its goes on post count.

I like the idea of outdoor scrog, but in an unfriendly state one should not do a square outdoor scrog. An asymmetrical form would be good/better.

hey bro, you can start to bonzia your plant at a very early age, you can trestell them to grow almost completely horizontally too.cropping your branches at a very early age will create a bushy phenotype style plant so it's shorter butt more dense bushy like. This will all maximize your yeild and help hide your plant.. BUTT WAIT! there's more.During flowering just after preflower if you bend your branches completely horizontally the buds will get abnormally bigger.(you'll have to keep bending side way's cause there naturally going to grow upward again). Remember the apical tip of the plant (the highest point) is the growth inhibitor, special hormones are concentrated in the plant to make it grow especially fast here. Bending the branches and lowering your growth inhibitor will change the flow of hormomes if it's lower then another shoot. the hormones will the go to the other shoot making it the knew growth inhibitor
