sea crates

I like the idea of a living roof..if its possible.. My favorite TV show is this English guy making biological filtered pools..they are basically a pond that looks beautiful with gin clear water..no chemicals no maintenance.. Really brings in the wildlife .

I'm used to thinking in blocks and modules anyway so the possibilities these present are mind boggling, lol

I was thinking of using one as a semi self contained grow, then see how it might go from there.

The toxic chemical finishes are exaggerated. If they were that unsafe chemically they would not be fit to move goods intended for retail.
I read that a coat of paint over the floor and walls would trap any possible contaminants anyway.
And the floors are pretty rough and needed to be redone anyway.

Yeah..I dunno about all that, Lumber Liquidators will go belly up in the next 5 years..they are a huge flooring manufacturing corp. Their toxic levels is way too high to be used in China but are acceptable here . ..lawsuits are changing that..you'd be surprised what kinda toxic shit is allowed to go on Here in the U.S.

Yeah... Just think about what my vertical skills could come up with in one of those! And I have the perfect COB LED array on order...

I watched more than one documentary about building with shipping containers. They all used a sealer paint on the inside then just dropped new plywood on top.
I plan to use in floor heating off a converted boiler.

I was thinking in floor is absolutely the way to go..and I was thinking a 100 gallon water heater could handle it..too small you think?

Depends on how much of the floor you plan to heat.
My buddy is a plumber and figured out using old coils and a couple radiators. Still up in the air about wood propane or electric boiler.
Going to check the used market when the time comes and go from there.
I will still run a wood stove as a main source of heat but it would help to have multiple options.

I always thought it would be cool to make one of those in to a self sufficient mobile home and ship yourself around the world.
Get the container shipped by truck from the seaport to your desired location, hang out a few months then move on.
Heat, cool and electric with propane. Windows would be the only problem.
Maybe some sort of hatch to protect the windows

sounds like a good concept for a film, or book. enclosed in small spaces for prolonged periods of time isn't my thing.
