I only visit them once every evening or two for about 20 minutes. Getting ready to leave work and swing in. Kinda excited!

Wow dude this is awesome very DIY (low cost) i love the idea of the tankless water heater we use one in our house but i never thought of using it this way. how did hook it up to turn on and off. i was looking at the HydroGEN thing that hydrofarm sells but its really just what u got with a fancy covering. Love the set up ill be subscribing to this one. oh yea that tank chiller is nice too. keep posting dude we love it. ++REP

Thanks bigbuddc, the water heater is turned on by the water flow to the unit. I have a pump in my rez that kicks on, when the water hits the flow switch on the burner it lights. The water heater is made by Marey. It is actually the same unit that hydrogen sells. They claim to have made changes to it but I kind of doubt that they are any different. That said, I certainy think they have a great product and deserve to profit from their discovery, service and value added. I'm just a seat of the pants gotta do it myself kind of guy. Plus I'm cheap!

11 days into 12/12 and the blueberry is really starting to explode with hairs. Stretched more than last time. Hopefully they'll fill in. Will take and post pictures Tuesday or Wednesday

Well, it's update time. Should I snap some new pics tonight? Anybody tuned into this?

Well the girls are into week two of 12-12 and it's time for an update.
I have solved what I thought was either bleaching or a slight cal mag defeciency.
As it turns out, it was a cal mag problem that was easily solved with a few feedings with 5ml calmag a gallon. Which is great, they are much nicer and deeper green in color and just much healthier. It also means that I was wrong about the fresca sol causing weird rings of hot spots. My plants are literally 8-14" away from a 1000 watt HPS bulb and are soaking that sh1t up like good cookies!
So I guess I would have to say I'm really starting to like this watercooled lamp more each day. Another cool benefit is it only takes a couple of minutes for a hot bulb to cool off enough to re-srtike.
They did stretch about 6" which isn't too much, really filled out the room nicely. The white hairs are just exploding for only being on 12-12 for 2 weeks.
Been trying to keep my temps at 83 day and 65-69 night. Been a real challange as the weather outside has been all over the place.
My digigro enviromental controller is being wired for 220 and will be re-installed in a few weeks, so for the time being I'm dealing with the thermostat on the AC which likes 72 at the lowest setting. Humidity runs about 55% average, co2 is at 1500ppm.
Feeding GH FNB 5-7.5ml per gallon, 10ml kool bloom pg, a splash of superthrive because it helped win WWII! PH 5.8 hand watered.

I welcome any questions, comments or suggestions.

plants are coming along nice budley im anxious to see what kind of yeild u get with that 1000 so close to the plants gotta be pretty good. is this the first time growing it this room if so what do u expect to yeild?

This is my second run with the lamp, first run was in a shorter 40" box with 8 plants. Light hung sideways with the wing reflector. Got about a 1 lb. Never did get a finished dry weight as it took me almost 2 months to get it all groomed, by that time I had already consumed a fair amount of it!

I had lots of problems on the first go around as well so I'm hopefull for a good haul but really have no idea what to expect.

Thanks Cheese, It is a great strain to grow, even better to burn. Mmmm delicious. It's been a real low odor strain yet still has plenty of bouquet when you break it up and burn it. Love it.

The difference between yesterday and today is incredible. They are really out doing my last run. I can hardly wait to post next weeks photos.

Here's a photo update. things are running along smoothly. Outdoor temps are still all over the place which has caused a couple of 60 degree lows. I'm right inbetween not need any AC and needing a little bit. If my automation system was installed, this wouldn't be an issue. I hope to have it re-installed next week.

So on whith the show:

Are you running water into the water heater then the light ? No that wouldn
't work... from the tank to the light then to the heater and back to the tank. Right What kind of controller do you use to turn the heater on.

But it can't actually cool the bulb itself to make it last a decent life can it like a ducted cooltube or normal air cooled hood? Just stops the heat from passing outwards right?

I'm curious to see if you notice much shorter bulb life during this grow and a much faster lumen drop off than normal.

But either way nice setup, you're going to love the results vs flat.

Actually, the water absorbs the heat, exactly like the air does, just more effeciently. I have taken the end cap off and there is very little heat. Keep in mind your element is sandwiched between two tubes of glass when your in the cool tube as well.

Also, an hps is designed to work in an enclosed box with no ventalation.

It's a good point but I think heat removal is heat removal.

Thanks, yea my next will likely be a full vertical sog. So far I'm really liking vertical, it lends itself to the over the top close up lighting the fresca affords.

Maybe cooling is cooling and yes there is an outer jacket on the bulb anyway, so I dunno, maybe you're right.

I'm running blueberry also with a similar setup. 1k open vertical bulb. 6 plants in a circle, 6 gallon containers of FFOF, botanicare nutes, 8 week veg. I can see how that light would be too much, my 1k ended up being too much for the size of the second room I had going last run and I really had a lot of trouble trying to keep the plants far away enough from the light not to bleach and burn or slow growth down and had to give up and shove some chicken wire around the bulb finally to train into a vertical scrog. If you run into the same problem, that's one option anyway.

I would prefer to run bare bulb myself, it's just this box is too small. I think I would need at least 5 x 5' to do bare. What is the size of your circle around your bare 1 k, the closest you can get the plant? I can go as close as a few inches. being that close doesn't allow me very much vertical spread though.

The room that was too small was just over 5x5 but it was only still too small because I had grown the plants way too big for the space, they were supposed to flower in a much larger grow area but I ran out of money to finish it just yet. I just had to flower them wherever I could shove them.

Nice looking plant. My space is 60 X 48" I don't think I can run bare bulb in it at all. I tried once and my AC couldn't penetrate the radiant heat. At the time I only had 40" of height.

Here's what I'm thinking about lining my box with next. I would run coco chips drain to waste likely run 8-10 per tube. Their 42" tall and 7" across. You just cut the tube and plant. It's a tall textile smart pot.
