Seaweed/kelp and Worm castings?

So I was just reading that seedweed (and or kelp - I here the difference is minimal) and worm castings can provide all the nutrients that my plants need. Is this really the case? I just switched over to coco so thinking of a mix of Coco, Perlite, seaweed and worm castings. From there on out making a tea of these, if what I read is true.

Currently paying out roughly $100 a month on nutrients alone and I would rather create my own mix and be totally sure it's organic.

Edit: This is the post where I read it: https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/303581-worm-castings-kelp-win.html - Post #6

  • You have made a organic fertilizer that both provides all micro nutrients and catalyzes micro flora and fauna growth. (Not to mention for cheap and without doing any damage to the environment.

Worm castings & kelp are both great and they probably would support a plant on their own. However, just the 2 alone might not grow a plant to its fullest potential.

Add some Peruvian and Indonesian guanos to round out the NPK levels and you'll be good.

I've removed all guanos and growing has not been better. Guanos can be unhealthy, and the harvest of guano is horrible to the environments where they harvest this. The fact is they are just not necessary. I would bet money that extremely few people outside of Weedville buy guano.

Fish meal, feather meal, comfrey, all are great alternatives to guanos.

No emotion. I'm just detailing the facts. Many other healthier more sustainable N and P sources.

Thanks for the input Rrog, I didn't realize the environmental impact. I will look into your suggestions. I try to always be conscious about how my actions effects the environment.

If you have a source of real seaweed, then grab some up; rinse the salt off well, dry it up, grind up (mortar&pestle or even rock&concrete). It has lots of trace elements and will do wonders for your mix. If not then grab up some kelp meal, it uses cold-water seaweed and works good enough.
And if you're against guanos (PSG works miracles in AACTs), then try fish bone meal, alfalfa, some banana peel teas, or even just some tones (like Epsoma). Depends on budget and if you want bottled organic nutes or not.
My friend is extremely happy using Canna products. Canna is supposed to be veganic (no animal products). Heard lots of good things about Blue Mountain Organics too(only available through company store on Ebay); much cheaper, but still top of the line organic product.

Rrog, That would be great actually. I've been looking around, but I would prefer something that I know works from an experienced grower.

Kronic, didn't see your post. :) I don't have access to real seaweed sadly. But I hear that the cattle feed stuff is the same that can be fed to plants, not sure if this is true or not, but I can get a 50lb bag for $30. Thank you! Just moved from pro mix to coco, not doing so well, but learning. Figured a mix would be a better option for me.
