Nope, at best from 25% @10w to 35-40% @1 or 2w. Mars for instance use 600mA rated drivers with 460-540mA real current, at best 80% effiency. And since they save on heatsinks and prefer to use loud fans, the LEDs run relatively hot.
That's the main reason they burn out so fast.
For DIY one could use the cheap 3w Epi/Bridgelux diodes, rated for 700mA, and run them on multiple parallel strings to get the best out of it. At 70-100mA maybe up to 40% depending on wavelength/spectrum. I've seen people using lots of 3w full spectrum diodes in parallel to cover a 2' x 2' area.
I would use them only as cheap additional light to supplement white COB's with lower kelvins.
But if one want supplemenat light that can also be done it with a few Vero13's in 1750°K, which is a lot more efficient and is alot less wiring effort.
Whatever you do, it's never a really good solution. With bad diodes you can only build bad lights. Even if you can get a few percent over large quantities, they will never be able to keep up with good top bin LEDs.
I'm not sure about Mars but my Wang Bang UFO has a driver with a claimed power factor of "Point Ny" or .9

They are fun to play with and do spectrum experimentations if nothing else..

So cherry pick the most efficient nanometer anal bead chips and put them on passive heat sinks with a high efficiency driver and they would be accepted around these parts? :P

If you run your carbon filter at full speed so it creates negative pressure (walls sucked in) in your grow tent you shouldn't have any problems at all controlling the smell. Also some strains don't have much odour at all. People have this stupid notion that because the weed they buy is strong smelling that it makes it more potent. Some of the hardest hitting cannabis strains like the C99 that I'm growing at the minute have literally no smell at all.

I got a little smell of 8-10 plants last year without any filters. Was very lazy last summer LOL. This year i plan on growing ALOT.

I love how cannabis smells. I'm in the UK and it's not legal at all here. If i lived in a legal state my entire home would be smelling of the stuff.

Man I just had a great idea where I can acctually have another perpetual setup. I own an auto repair business and there js a semi trailer in back where used tires were usually put. I could setup in the front and definitely disguise it as well as less worries on smell. Trailer is already wired for light and is within a foot of the building wall. :) :)

Jeahehe! What a cool idea!
The first movable grow-trailer in the world, you discovered a niche, mate!
Since you see what legality can cause for innovations.
Maybe you should visit the "Shark-Tank" with it to find a sponsor, lol!
Next time when someone goes camping, he can bring his babies with him.
I call this cool, lol!

Right on. Having a hard time getting answer om that one, But if 30-50 Flowering plants in tents inside a garage doesnt smell then im about to get wild. HA!

as long as Ohio stops messing around and goes recreational I plan on doing multi location grows and pushing the limit. I plan to learn a LOT.

You could take a cheap chinese quantumboard 260w copies or just take the boards to save on shipping costs. 4 boards mounted on an 100x 100x 5mm aluminum sheet would b equaly to a HLG550(or two of them). Only problem I see is, they use probably no LM561c but LM561b, so maybe 10lm/w less effiency.
You may be better advised to pick up one of the used lights from the guys above!
