Security question: electricity usage pattern?

I'm also not so sure how green they truly are. I'd be willing to bet that there are a BUNCH of nasty chemicals used to produce them.

Germany is BIG into solar.

tusseltussel :

Thats really only a 480W system. 4 120 panels. Its a back up system not a full time. And for $9k? But I do like that its an all-in-one kit.

Grid-tied is a lot cheaper. No batteries and no charger. But has its probs/drawbacks too.
i can see clearly now....thanks bbb

i know it should be at least 2 panels ... but 1 is a start

get this.... buy a battery charger ... most people already have them...charge em up when its not performing great:eyesmoke:(until you get more panels)
at least then there is no standard "hes growing pot .. look at this peak 400 watts ...for 18hours a day .. same time every day ... for 2 months then 12 hrs for another 2 ...."

at least it will be 1 day of different current charging and at least 3 days of nothing...how can they try to use that

---------------------------
but any way usually have decent wind here and i have alot of flat land around me... so i will probably go with wind.. but still use a batt charger if i need to ;)

did i somewhat re inspire you whatapothead?
You talking about a battery charger that plugs into the wall???

Dumb idea. You will use 3Kw to get 2.5Kw back out. Its a loss.
And you are going to get caught from here WAY before a 400W shows as unusually high usage.

Companies aren't doing well. They aren't hiring people to go look for blips.
(yes, electrc co's are hurting. Thy can't raise rates willy-nilly. They have to be approved and their costs of fuel are going up)

A window AC or an electric space heater uses a lot of juice. Do you tell your elec co *everything* you own and add to it when you get a new item?

Now stop being silly, just pay the bill on time and grow some killer buds!

lol yea im not that concerned with them .. but it would still be nice to save all that money after the first couple years ;)

I just crunched some number fast. I figured 10 hours a day of sunlight (winter, cloudy days, etc Seemed a fair number) and a kW at $0.13.

A 120W panel at 100% efficiency yields $56.94 with of juice a year. I came up with a 27 years before it pays itself off. (I added the calcs to the link in my sig - eleccost if ya wanna play around)

.13KWH ??? i wish try .21:roll:
i dont know why everyone says oh just use .10 a kwh
i look at my bill its .10Kwh and then .08-.11 for delivery .. BAM double overchage surchage rustproofing... whatever:evil:

as you add more panels you would save more..
and again i've floated away from the solar panel idea as im learning about wind power now and it would be optimal for my location

here plug 1 or 2 of these into your equation pipe and smoke it !

Yea man a few windmills a roof top of solar and you'd have power when there is no wind or sun just store a bunch etc. its an expensive investment BUT hey can you put a price on going green?

cut the bs....as a electricion i seen some funny shit....i go to a house to check a meter socket and guess what.....a fucking magnet taped to the outer socket...did not touch but soon found out what it can do for you.................................................................................it trickels your meter!!! this means for every KW used, it is actualy 1/8 th a kw sometimes less..i have tried and i use it when i do laundry or anything that use a 220v ....Some sockets are different...dont get seen...or you can just pay your bill!

man i feel sorry for some of you guys ,electricity only .06/KWH where I am. If you get your self on the off peak plan and use 70% of your power between hours of 9pm and noon then you only gotta pay .04/KWH. just set all yer timers to come on at those times and its pretty easy to keep a low bill in the winter as far as elec. costs. Summer is harder if its hot and you gotta run the AC all day, still cost is pretty cheap.

last news segment i heard said that basically it takes like 20 years or longer for solar/wind power stuff to pay itself back even.

its like buy a hybrid to get better gas mileage. Ur paying for it up front.

sure, its good for the planet though, so if you can afford to go off the grid (and plan on living where you are now for the next 25+ years), by all means.

lol some of you guys must be really paranoid all day. Lol usage pattern really gave me a good laugh. I can just see people who work at the electric companies see my lights go off and i lose a few hundred watts and their first thought is growing lights! Lolololol Chill.

how & where to put the magnet? this could be very interesting find for larger, stealthier grows :weed:

if you that paranoid have 2 grow room running lights at 2 different times so ther overlaps will make things confusing for anyone to track.

i'm not paranoid, would like to grow more, save more, smoke more, for the money that i pay to grow it. :joint:

a generall rule is one 1000 watt lamp for every bedroom in the house wont raise eyebrows, a smart thing to do also is just think of the little stuff, dont keep scales and shit like that where you grow and dont go overboard, if you live in a medi state go get a card and stick by the guidelines

If in the USA, they CANNOT obtain a search warrant soley on power consumption. However, it CAN put you on the map. But what stoppes you from altering your consumption? Electric lawnmowers, grinders, washing machines ETC! Heat sig's can be thrown off by using heaters and lamps during the day. But with Obama I wouldn't worry about it. I'm not a lawyer, but you CAN ask one for advice. If you pay, it should be confidential as you are a client at that point. Your FRIEND can, anyway! ;-)

Was the original question just for discussion or were you really concerned about whether or not your consumption patterns are being looked at? I'd think if one was really concerned about Big Brother watching, they wouldn't have set up an account on this site.

As far as photovoltaics go, that's an industry I used to work in. While getting off the grid is an awesome feature, without government subsidies here in California, the homeowner doesn't have a fair shot at recouping their original capital for quite a long time. It all depends on the size of the array, and the amount of electricity used on an average basis. Other factors include electricity rates for your local area. Most people are unaware how much the government subsidizes the cost of energy here in the US, and don't truly know the real cost of the power they consume. It's much more expensive than we realize.

In addition, photovoltaics will never be able to equal or surpass the amount of BTU's it took to CREATE them in the first place (at the current state of technology), which negates their "green" factor. Like a Prius, it's more a status symbol than anything else.
