Seed care and when to know to change to veg schedule

I’m a new grower and I was wondering how I’m going to be able to tell when I should change from the 24 hour light for the seedling to a 18-6 light for veg. I’ve heard I should start after the 4th mode pops up and that’s when I can start training the plant as well (topping, lst, and eventually scrogging). Also how should I take care of my seeds? Should I leave the light on for 24 hours or would it be less? I’ll be using coco in a 8x4 with 8 plants under most likely a 600w mh.

24 hours of light during veg is a debatable topic. And one where there's a lot of opinions. Personally for veg, I've tried 24on, 20on/4off, 18on/6off and just settled on 20on/4off. And I haven't noticed a difference compared to 24on or 18on/6off. Except that I save some on electric and everything has a chance to cool off a bit compared to 24on (bigger deal for hydro growers than soil growers probably).

And this is just further personal opinion but plants have twenty-four hour based circadian rhythms that have a lot to do with hormone production and cycles. Keeping them under 24 hours of light results in a free cycling of their circadian rhythms - which just doesn't happen in nature. They seem to deal with that just fine... but why mess with their biological processes any more than necessary unless there's clear demonstrated gain in doing so?

But moral of the story, I find more benefit in giving them at least a couple of hours of regular "night" per 24 hour cycle than not.

Just MHO.

You might also consider setting up a nursery for seedlings in a small area that uses low wattage. There's no point in running a 600w anything over seedlings.

i stick with the 24/0 as it saves the life of the bulb and ballast. but i have herd more then a few times that its good to give your ladies a dark period

Does this apply to very young seedlings? Am I doing anything wrong by running my seedlings 24 hours under a T5 for the first week?
A T5 is probably great for new seedlings. You can run them under 24 hours of light from day 1 if you want and that is what works for you (until you want to flower them anyway).

Ahhh alright what about a 100w or 250 mh for the seedling? I kinda wanted to use the mh bulb for seedlings and veg instead of buying 2 different bulbs.

I heard darkness makes your bud produce more trichome. But since were talking about the early stages I’m guessing that’s not gonna matter rn

yes your ok with a 100 watt or a 250watt metal halide, 250 watts isa little overkill on electricity use though, but you dshouldent have any problems
