Seed germinating question

Just a quick question can you stop a seed from germinating? The sprout is just about to pop out the shell and was wondering if it can be stopped as I have revived my old plants

Once its cracked open, its already started. Too late.

Once the seed casing (shell) has absorbed water it activates germination.
There is no turning back when this happens, from here on out it either sprouts or dies.
