Seed Viabilty

Bought a ten pack of Kushage and a ten pack of Bandana from the Attitude.
Out of each pack I planted five beans and these are the results after about a week.

So far Kushage has been extremely disappointing with only two out of five beans sprouting. Probably the worst germination I've had since I got a homemade cross from a buddy that he had done a few years before.

I am wondering if this is a consequence of the seeds I received from the Attitude being old or just bad genetics from TH seeds to start with? It occured to me that I've never seen anything from the Attitude stating how long they keep their beans until they discard them. Does the Attitude discard them after a certain point? I know from working around plants that the USDA requires companies to discard seed after they exceed their expiration date. Also TH Seeds packaging does little to prevent the beans coming into contact with air which can't help them. Any thoughts?

lol, they did state the seeds were for souvenir purposes only, I guess that proved to be true...

i grew from the attitude and never had a problem, maybe its the way you germinate and not the seeds? Attitude is a middle man, broker and they have nothing to do with the seeds themselves as far as viability.

Trust me it's not my technique. It's gotta be the beans, the lame ass packaging that exposes them to open air, or the length of time attitude has had them stocked.

I have a friend that still has seeds from the 70's and just for giggles tried out a few to see if they were viable and they were. So, shelf life is not really an issue and neither is the Attitude; they are NOT the breeder, just the seller - AND they PAY for THIS SITE. Read this: Sannies, hemp depot, BC seeds, etc do NOT pay one dime for this site. Enough Attitude bashing and there may not be a Rollitup.

Attitudes great. Just send em n email and be discreet and you could end up with some replacements fo' free. Just try n say you did not receive you seeds in satisfactory condition or something along those lines. They have great customer service and I'm sure they'll find a way to make it right.

Kushage from TH Seeds is one of the easiest varieties to grow that there is. KSG is also
very easy to clone. Your poor germination rate is on you. You have trouble germing 2 varieties and the first thing you think of is blame Attitude?

Actually the Bandana strain was 100% germination all of those seedlings have at least four leaves beyond the cotyledons. Bandana germed in around 12 hours it's going on more than a week for the kushage. How is it all on me if one strain that was released this year sprouted on the same day that they were planted?

How is it that Kushage, the smaller, lesser developed seeds had a shitty 40% germination rate and the ones that have germed barely have taproots?

I would like the OP to explain his technique. Maybe we can help him.

Moisten seed/ clone plug with dechlorinated water, sow seed in plug, keep plug in humidity dome with vents closed. I keep it under a t5 fixture which is about 2 feet off of the top of the dome. Once a day I remove the dome for an hour so as to allow for fresh air exchange. If the dome is dry or the plugs look dry i remoisten them. After the seedlings are established i transplant them into promix and water them with some AACT to introduce microbial activity to them. I also use this same technique with ECSD for cloning it.

I've sprouted lots of different strains over the years, out of all the ones that I have paid for Kushage has been the absolute worst other than spice or belladonna, both of which I got from attitude and both of which I suspected of being past date.

Id like to say that I have been extremely critical of Attitude in the past and since I have written my last critical post about them here about a year or so ago I have made 4 orders with them. 3 worked out as designed being that I received my seeds in around a week and 1 time they were lost and after 3-4 weeks Attitude resent my order without any issue and I received it 6 days later. I am not a pawn to the "Attitude is the best bank" people to say the least but I have to give credit where credit is due and as of now they are the only bank I see myself using for a long time to come.

I agree, they are the only bank that I have ever used and in general they have been excellent.

What I wanted to address is my doubt that they rotate their stock after a year which is standard by law for seeds you would be purchasing here in the united states. The only exception I have seen to this is seeds of change which store their seed in pouches that allow them viability for at least two years.

In short I have learned to really stop and think about wether or not a strain might have been sitting at the attitude for years and years due to low demand.

I have an opinion only. I beleive that they stay aware of there stock and I honestly believe that they probably turn old stock into freebies. I would tend to think that any problem you are having provided you know what you are doing as you have stated is the breeders issue. It is certainly not impossible though that it is old stock. I can only imagine that their inventory is huge. Mistakes do happen for sure.

Good point, I guess I would also have to consider wether or not TH Seeds is another mediocre dutch breeder......
