Seedling Bent Over [PICS]

any options ?

that's stretching, you had the light source too far from the plant, you may still be able to save it, but I doubt it,...
only thing you can really do now is lower the light source down as close as you dare and prop the plant up with a stick or pencil...

my first thought is 'lol' .... it will be fine, more light and let the soil dry out completly, you should spray water seedlings,otherwise it can damage their small weak roots !

yeah does look a tad over-watered too...
anymore stretching and it may not survive though, I've done that to seedlings in the past myself.

Support it with a toothpick or something similar, bring your lights closer to the plant, and get a small fan blowing gently directly on it. That will strengthen the stem.

pick stem up, add more dirt, pack lightly and add support...move light lower

should be fine...i had some stretched real bad...now they are doing fine....is the ones on the left of this picture...looked just like yours...my stem was longer than the cup is deep!

hey first of all thanks for replying to my thread

secondly i don't have any lights, i use the sun i just put it in the window sil and hope for the best. Yea the sun is pretty high up hope it doesn't stretch too much

for now ill just support it with a bamboo stick and do wat u guise said

I germ all my seeds in my plants near the window and they all stretch like that...unfortunately none ever survive just the window have to take them out and plant them......you should out them near a lighting source through the nights and you may have a chance....try a CFL bulb real close to it...once it develops a bit you can out it outside

i don't get it though why won't they survive i mean how did they grow when grow lights didn't exist ?

yea...just move the light closer and stand it up on a stick...i had a neglected plant which was like this but longer and i saved it..just wait for the waxy coating to develop on the stem

since its inside it is growing different then if it was in actually outside. Your best bet is to bury the stem in the soil. this will make it so that it only the top of the stem actually supports the weight. it should help a lot. you really should thing about getting some cfls to get it stronger then move it outside. right now it is just not getting adequate light through the window.

seems quite a few people using windows get this problem, it may be something getting filtered out by the glass it may be that some windows actually have materials in them to filter out certain light bands and help insulation.
I've seen probably 30 posts here in my short time on this site of people using window sills complaining of stretching though.

most windows only pick up a set ammount of direct sunlight, the rest is causes the stretch

hey guys.. im having the same problem but my seedling that has just sprouted is bent over its just out the soil and still has the seed attached?? it is as if the seed is to heavy for it to lift? please help i dont know what to do and dont want ma little seedling to die on me thanks EcKtOpLaZm

My babies love good sun light but you got do it when the sun kicking! If it's cloudy or its not direct light you can do it! If you can't see your shadow, forget about it! I'll give my some mh a few hours a day too! You have to have get some lights

Yours looks ok. It's only a couple of days old, right? Now that it has found the light it is taking a pause to develop the root. It should start growing again soon and shed the seed pod. Don't mess with it yet.

yeh just 3 days old tbh ... why isit so bent over tho it doesnt look right? i also have another that was next to it that hasent sprouted and all the others have, what is the longest time it can take to break soil?? thanks alot mate i will leave it be and see what happens ecktoplazm

They come out of the seed curled up and unfurl when they begin to grow. If you plant them shallow they tend to come up curled more and need to take a break before growing. If you plant them deeper they come up straighter with a better root at emergence but take longer to emerge. These are my observations anyway. It is entirely possible I was stoned at the time.
Mine have always come up within 5 days. I have heard it can take longer but I'm not going to wait for one that is much slower than the rest. I would not wait any longer than 10-14 days.
I normally germ mine in paper towels within 36 hours and transplant. They are usually up in a couple of days and then pause for a day or two before growing again.

A small cfl will work for the first couple of weeks. Start using something now. A metal halide would be ideal for veg but not absolutely necessary. I veg mine under T5s.
Take them out of the dome after they emerge.
