Seedling Problems- Help NEEDED - Now in Wilma System

Hi Guys

Having some difficulties early on in my second grow....

I bought LOADS of new equipment for this grow, got some AF seeds and started by using rockwool in a heated propagator to germ and begin the process, 6 seeds popped, the other two havent done anything - I have since tried the paper towel method with the remaining two to no avail.

They werent getting enough natural sunlight, (tiny serrated leaves appearing, original seed leaves still present) and were stretching so after 5 days decided to stick them in the grow room, roots have still to show through the underside of the rockwool. I am using an 8 pot wilma (clay pebbles) and 600w dual spec hps. Started nutes on day 5 with canna start, ph 6 ec 0.5 (better to give too less than too much i thought with them not in ideal conditions anyway). Lights are at 1m + away from plant and will now be on 20hr off 4hr..... They seem unfortunately to be worsening, in that they are drooping more so, I only watered the once after transferring (prior to that only the rockwool cubes were wet and the propagator kept a lot of moisture in (maybe too much me thinks).

So this is where im at, 100's spent on equipment, a good 60 spent on seeds, and its fallin to shit! If anyone can suggest what I should do in this situation to improve on where im at, it would be appreciated. Anyone been in this same situation? If so what did you do to fix it?

My plan was to feed once they have started to go upright again (if they do) and just take it from there really. I have also ordered a few more seeds coz ive got the space and need to maximise the potential.

Thanks in advance and good luck to you all!

got any photos mate?

Im a wilma user and have two of the 8 pot version. My guess would be to put them back in the propogator and get the humidity up as they might not have enough of a root system to support them yet.

Hi Yoghi

I think youre bang on in what you say, no root system formed.... can you tell me if you use a propagator what exactly you do.... I mean with the natural sun light not kicking it could I put them under a 600w if I keep the distance and temps right? When I took them out of the room coz they had died, I noticed the rockwool cubes were bone dry (I cant get my grasslin digital timer working yet so just fed the same amounts as I usually would have done by hand when using soil) Im thinking now that wasnt a good idea and should have had it on all the time instead, or like you said have them back in the propagator?

Out of curiosity would you leave a digital Thermo-Hygrometer in the propagator? I didnt know if it would damage being that moist inside, water was forming quite big droplets on the top lid?

Once in the grow tent the humidity ... or should I say what humidity, it just wasnt there so I think that help cause the eventual downfall (all my babies have passed away :-( I need to buy yet another bit of equipment - humidifier.

Im getting some more seeds and im going to give it another shot. Can you let me know what your schedule of feed etc is in the wilma, its the first time ive used it. Ive read other peoples posts about it but of course all differed, I just wondered if your getting good results me replicating your set up may prove successful.... Sorry this is going on a bit, i also assume you must have to use a humidifier, if so (im picking one up in a week or so) does yours have a timer on it? I just wondered how you regulate it, I can understand heat but humidity would surely be harder if your using something which just has an on-off switch?

Thanks again

i haven't heard too many good thing about rockwool, ive heard that placing the seed in half of an eggshell with soil works well because when the egg shell rotts it sends phosphorus directly to the root

Feed mine every hour for 15 minutes lights on, then a couple of times for 15 minutes when lights are off. I use the blue drippers and have two drippers in each pot, four plants in each system, eight drippers.

I dont use a humidifier, I just leave the extractor on longer as things take shape until it runs 24/7 to take the humidity down during flowering, and introduce fresh air with an intake fan and tube with holes in it.
