seedling problems. plenty of info and pics.

hi everyone. so i started my first grow a little over 2 weeks ago. well growing out a mother at the moment. about 2 days ago i looked in my grow cab and found 3 or 4 of my seedlings leaves starting to look like they are almost rusting. can anyone help me identify the problem. they are about 14 days from sprout today growing indoors, temps are between 75-80 depending on how hot it is outside, humidity is around 40-50% they are growing in 25% perlite 75% canna coco, the strain is belladonna right now they are under 2 23W 36" HO T5 fluorescents about 2-3 inches away they are in smaller cups right now but roots are starting to show threw the bottom so they will be transplanted on thursday.

they have not had nute water yet as my botanicare grow nutes dont get here till the 12th so i have just been giving them tap water with calmax and pro silicate at a rate of 10ml per gallon of tap water each then PH to 5.8 it ends out at about 650 ppm i water every three days.


it looks similar to calcium deficiency??, but im using 10ml calmax per gallon of water. i dont know how im gettin calcium def.. also its only on 3 or 4 of them. the others look great. i cant figure out what is causing it. any suggestions will help. sorry for the bad pics but its still visable.

Looks to me like an overdose more than deficiency. You may have over fed the calmax. Did you mist the leaves with anything? The spotting looks like they were burned by something. Give them pure tap water for about a week and they should recover. 25% perlite might also be too much for those small cups. Use about 10-15% perlite when you transplant them.

no i have never misted the leaves before and im normally careful when i water them to check for droplets on the leaves and dab with some paper towel to get the drops off. but thanks ill flush em with tap water for a week as you said and put less perlite into the larger pots when i transplant. thanks a lot

Ur adding Ca to tap water? Too much Ca blocks out Mg. It is an Mg def. Only rhizotonic supplements for seedlings, not primaries or secondaries. Tiny bit of N soon, not now.

Perlite and coco ,not much in there and this is why they are hungry and getting sick, make sure you have the nutes ready next time and hit them 1/2 str then full next feed as soon as the nutes arrive.

I think they both may be correct. It's hard to tell the difference between deficiency and nute burn. I never used coco so I wouldn't know. I like a good soil mix to start my plants in that way I don't have to worry about feeding them for a good 2-3 weeks.

it showed up right after i hit them with prop-o-gator 2 feedings ago. im guessing its burned. because it was about 750 ppm that feeding, also i hit them with double the label amount of the calmax so im guessing its a combo of the 2.. to much ca, and a bit of burn. lol thanks for the help everyone. my last water which was 2 days ago was a flush so tomorrows watering ill hit them with a bit of nutes and we'll see how they do. also they are going into larger pots tomorrow also as roots are starting to show threw the bottoms of the cups.

Try and stick to half the instructed amounts. My bad, if ur in Coco then u need to lightly feed from the start. EC/PPM is very important and so is the PH. Get a good Veg fert and don't buffer tap water with Mg/Ca.

Make sure you hit them with double the recommended nutrients as well.
