Seedling Stress

Good morning! Hoping to get some advice on how to save my seedlings. This is my first grow in soil, trying to go organic, establish a living soil. Had several succsefull hydro grows in the past, still much to learn!

I have several seedlings in 1 gallon smart pots that are very stressed, about a week old. I had someone taking care of them while I was away for a few days. I noticed the drooping and canoeing of the leaves last night, I thought that they were under-watered. So I gave them a good soaking last night. However, I checked the soil this morning, it's nearly bone dry. I had so much runoff with the smart pots, I thought I watered enough. Maybe not? The root riot plugs are still moist though… Are they overwaterd?

Light: Fluence Spectrum 2p

Soil: Coast of Maine - Sprout Island Organic Seed Starter

Ph:? I’m running out now to pick up a new pH meter.

Temp: 78

Humidity: 60%

Thanks!

It’s hard not to overwater in those big pots.

Pick up the pots. If heavy, overwatered. If light, under watered. They look about the same in early stages (droopy, tacoing, etc) so it's up to you to make a determination.

If you have that much runoff and they are under watered, your soil is jacked up and doesn't have any water retention.

I agree with Skoal, they look to be over watered. The most common mistakes starting out is over watering and over use of Nutes. Let em dry out a bit and I bet they rebound, Marijuana is quite resilient.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, the pots are slightly heavier than before I watered. However, I dug down on the side and it seemed bone dry to me, it's “dusty.” The root plugs are saturated though.

The watering is really kicking my ass. I have had the larger bed going for about two weeks now. I mixed the buildasoil 3.8 kit, about 20 cubic feet, I have barley and crimson clover growing now. I water the bed with about gallons every night and everything still seems so dry to me.

are you using only seed starter in that big pot? Don't know that brand but I think seed starter doesnt have anything in it and is something inert like pete or idk what that's inert. If so it might dry out like 5x faster than a regular soil mix I think.

Yea, your medium is,for lack of a better word, shit if it's not retaining water. Repot in better dirt.

Thought they looked thirsty. Overwatering doesn't usually spot the leaves unless your ph is jacked up too.

Next time start them in a small pot and get a good root ball going first then transplant into them pots defiantly over watered. Easy done in those size pots. Good luck.

A combination of over then underwatering due to it being hard to manage a small plant in a big container.

Killing the roots imo :-)
