Seedlings - Watering Question

I planted 25 seeds on Monday and 20 have popped the surface so far. They are planted in 12 oz plastic cups with a nail sized hole in the bottom in a coco/perlite mix.

I am leaving town tomorrow evening around 5 and wont be back until Sunday night. So, they are going to be left alone for about 48-52 hours. Right now they are evenly watered with about a 1/4 inch of water sitting in the tray for them to soak up. They are under a light consisting of 6 Tbulbs (dont recall the wattage). My question is how I should handle the water while I am gone. I am trying to avoid watering them directly but dont want to put too much water in the try in fear of overwatering. I spent a lot of money on these seeds so I dont want them to go to waste. Anyone have any advice on how to handle the water before I leave tomorrow?

I was thinking about watering with a syringe so they are full of water and then putting like a 1/2 inch of water in the try so it can soak it up as needed. I know how delicate seedlings are though. Any suggestions?

Take them out of the tray of water. Seedlings as new as yours wont deplete the water in the cups for days if the soil is already saturated.

It's a good thing your going away so your could describe your watering habits. You are going to love your plants to death if you keep giving them the level of attention you currently are. Seedlings do not need maintenance multiple times every day. You water them, put a fan on them, then leave them be to do their thing. It may/will take days for them to need you to do something for them again.

Good luck with everything.

are they on a heat pad cause that makes them dry quicker

i agree wit poster above
remove from tray and sitting water
make sure they are good and wet before you go should be ok at return
the good thing here is - T bulbs do not make hardly any heat =less drying

good luck

No heating pad because my air conditioner is on the fritz and the house hasnt been getting lower than 88 degrees. I leave all my cuttings and freshing rooted clones in trays of water and have for years without issue including seedlings. I just dont normally put more than a 1/4 inch of water in the tray for the seedlings becuase of the issues you mention. Due to my current AC issue, things dry out quicker than they normally would.

Thanks for the tips.
