hi there! i live in a tropical country and have some seeds that im trying to germinate. i have done everything correct that im supposed to. done the paper towels sprouted the roots, put them in good quality soil outside in the 35/40 degrees cent sun. kept them moist but no wet. still no seedlings! been trying for a month now and gone through abut 10 seeds (local seeds). maybe i should leave them germinating until i can see the leaves then put them in the soil? or is that too late? at what point is it best to move from paper towels to soil? just before the leaves show or just after?

how deep are you planting them into the soil after they germ m8?? this could be the problem if you plant them too deep, they will die..

you only want to plant them about as deep as the size of the seed, maybe a 1/4 inch or so, not much more..

i usually only wait till i see a taproot, the white root that comes out of the seed first, to get to about 1/4 inch or so before i move the seed into soil..

tried many different depths but next time im gonna try waiting a little longer before planting in soil and then just under the surface of the soil. see how that goes.

Wait, its all you can do at this point. I would put them in soil and leave them until they sprout. I remember I waited around 3 weeks for one and it happened to give me the strongest buds.

ve got B1 solution now! ive set up another batch of four only this time ive waited till the seeds have germinated to the point of having the first 2 leaves then put them in paper cups of soil dampend with B1 solution. then outside over night ready to soak up the 40 degree sun tomorrow! we shall see what happens over the next few days!!!

Try it your way, then also try it this way and see what works better for you. First, soak your medium and let the excess water drain, then soak your seeds for 10 min, then poke a hole a half inch deep, sow the seed, and pinch the soil to close the hole. Next, lightly mist the top layer and place the container in a sunny spot. Continue to lightly mist once a day or when top layer looks dry.

You shouldn't need any B1 or additives. Its either infected, rotting, dehydrated, buried to deep, or something ate it.

had a look this morning and again this afternoon! not looking good! when i first put them in the first two leaves were looking fairly green, now they've just wilted and turned brown!!! i just dont get it!!! ive tried SOOO many different methods and none of them have worked!! ive done everthing excatly as people have suggested, done everything to the letter! ive come to the conclusion that the soil is not good enough quality. if i was living in th UK it wouldn't be an issue, id just go to my local garden shop and buy the best soil for the job, but as i live in east asia its a bit more difficult to get what i want cos i dont speak the local lingo so im not sure what im getting! what IS the best soil for the job??

35/40 degrees cent sun?
from seedling? That may be a bit much to get a healthy start.

id of thought it would be ideal conditions! the seeds i have are indiginous to the area and it grows naturally over here! (well would do if the police didn't go around 20 years ago and pretty much wipe it out!)

I'm a novice grower too. so if it grows wild there I certainly am not the one to argue. Hope you get it sorted out.
Happy growing.

...just bury the seed 1/4 inch into the soil, keep warm, keep moist, and your off.....I use promix, which has no fertz in it. I've never fed into the whole paper towl method, I have always figured to plant the seed like all the other seeds in my veggie garden....K.I.S.S.

That wont do anything for it. Do you water them in after u plant them into the soil. It doesnt need to be a fourth of an inch actually you jst want the seed burried basically.

im pretty much up for trying any suggestions right now! what im gonna do is take all suggestions given so far up try them all!! ive gone through about 20 seeds so far! ive got loads but i wont have if things keep going like this!! im pretty sure its the quality of soil cos all seeds ive put in have looked fine when taken out of the dark and put in to the soil then watered but then they just die after a day or two. the soil i have is bought from a gardening shop and is apparently the best you can buy around here but it full of tree bark and small .... well they look like pine leaves.... cant find any 'potting' soil is there a way i can make the soil better or mix up my own from scratch?

I bet either your soil is too hot meaning too many nutrients in it or you are over waterimg. Also the direct sun could be too much at first. Put them where they get shade part of the day. That will be enough to start them.
