They are worth it. Take it from a fellow vet. Want a cheaper but still useful one? Go with MarsHydro, Galaxyhydro, or ViparSpectra. HID will always run hot and will add a hefty chunk to your electric bill. Also requires a dedicated circuit and special installation.
You can usually run at least one light on an outlet. ( When I started I had ran 2 1k's straight from the wall) So not always is a dedicated circuit or special installation needed.

If you go with the Mars 600's...Get 2 of them for a 4x4 room. They don't preform quite to the level of other LED's, but the Mars are cheap, just get more. They DO work, you just need enough of them.
I had 2 400's in a 2x2.5 room(180 watts each for 360 watts), That was enough, but not too much.

Rule of thumb for lighting is at least 40 to 50 watts per square foot. Watts coming from the wall watts.

OTHERWISE go HID. Mars and other cheap led manifactures use epiled 5 w diodes......which are actually less efficient than a good old 1000w HPS bulb.

Spend your money wisely.....
