Serious plant spacing and hight before flower question?

First of all i am using ebb and flow hydro with a 3'x3' flood table from the top of the table to the roof is 4'5". and i will be using a 400 watt hps light. So i guess my questions are whats the max hight i can veg to and whats a resenable number of plants for this space please help with this seed will be here soon and i dont want to make them to lage for my space thanks for any advise you can give

I'm doing something similar but CFL. I recently started flowering but I waited too long I think.. I have 4 plants: 3 sativa 1 indica. I started flowering expecting 2x height growth before they finished but it looks like they are growing about an inch a day. Major problem for me... I would flower earlier than later an avoid a headache.

thanks for the reply hydroneer i was thinking about veging to about 12" to 15" that would give me about 25 to 30 inch plants but im not sure if that will be to high. the light i ordered is only 6" deep so that would leave me about 12" above the tops dont know if that would be to close. anyone have any thoughts on this please reply this is my first grow and dontwant to mess it up to bad. also if anyone has any advise on spacing that would be great.

depending on the strain, even plants flowered at 12-15'' can get over 45'' tall, so I wouldn't risk even waiting that long. 8''-10'' or less is probably better. you are not working with a ton of height there. 12'' is about a perfect distance away from that light, as long as you can keep it cool. I would suggest doing a scrog, they really may grow into your light

Thanks Ian Singerdale for the info thats really what i was thinking might happen. As for the strains i bought a mix pack afgan, ppp, skunk#1, master kush, and nirvana special and a free the church fem. so i might just take a few clones from each one or a couple at a time and just do a sog as i dont really fully understand the screen technique just yet need more research on that. but i guess 9 or so plants at 8" would still give a desent yeild under a 400 watt light.

Well a little good news folks. after looking around i just found a new res and with some slight modification just gained about 12 extra inchs of grow hight looks like i now have about 40" between the table an the light at 12" from the tops of the plants

Personally, I would only grow clones on tables, not from seed. Secondly, grow short and squat (no sativa's but maybe some sativa hybrids). Indica's i.e. Northern Lights, Kushes, etc...... Lastly, grow uniform plants (1 strain)........... it will only take 1 grow for you to understand what I'm talking about.

I am growing skunk #1 right now and it would be my personal choice for your setup. It stretched much less than the rest of my plants (maybe only 1.5x veg height), has a single, huge cola (it may be 10-12'' long) and was the first of my plants to start throwing out trichomes (day 14 of flower). it is literally COVERED in trichs now. I will probably do a sog with it for my next harvest.

I recommend you grow out that skunk #1 and then populate your flow table with its clones. may take a little longer but it WILL be worth
