CFL maybe if you surround the plants. CFL are more typical with 1 to 3 plants. I would go with HPS for more then that. HTG supply sell lights pretty cheap. Whats the budget like?

build a grow box. the walls should be fairly close to the plant to reflect as much light as possible.

I mean the budget can be flexible but I would like to be cheap as possible u know, and I can try and build a grow box. I dont know why I didnt even think of it. I just figured since I had a room it should be ok.

Thats a big area for CFLs. They will work for vegging but when its time for flowering CFLs wont cut it. I would suggest getting a 600W HPS system thats capable of using a MH Conversion bulb. I'm also a newbie. I have a 400W HPS for a 4'x4' tent, and my plants are crying for more light. I would be crying myself to sleep if i had only used CFLs

Youve got space that some growers would die for! I'm jelous! Good Luck!

hey guys, sorry to butt in on your thread but i dont want to open up a new one if we can keep it al in one place you know what i mean? But anyways, I order two lights, a 150 hps and a 175 mh, my questions are; will that be enough for a 3x3ft area (about), and can I use both at the same time to increase lumens output, total of 315 watts? Let me know what you think, if i need more light i can buy a 400 watt. Just want to hear your opinion :)

When you say as cheap as possible you should think that through. Penny-wise and pound foolish, you know. Lights are a very important investment in the yield you will get. You're talking about 7 plants so for example, if your budget lights mean you get 2 oz per plant when you could have gotten 4, that's 14 ounces. That's about $4,000 lost to save a few hundred now.

I can afford 150-200 bucks for 400 watt HPS lights from htgsupply, would that be enough light for seven plants??? would it drive my electricity bill through the roof?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that a 400w will have enough light for a 3'x3' area. I have a 400w lighting a total of 7 plants right now. 2 of them however look a little small, im not sure if its a characteristic of the strain (both plants are from the same mother) or because the taller plants have prevented them from getting 100% of the light they need. Either way i'm not using mylar at the moment, so i'm sure if you use some you can keep 7 alive definately.

I'm growing 6 under a 400 watt mh/hps digital ballast... my grow area is much smaller though.. only 3ft x 2ft ... i would sugest building some type of wall structure (paint it flat white) to reflect the lumens
