Definitely. I top dress the week before switching to flower 50/50 and then again around 4-5 weeks in flower of 20/80. The 80% is 2-8-4 heavy phosphorus/potassium. Also added worm castings both times.

since it’s close to 7 weeks again, I’m not sure it could be fading the largest branches?

My guess is he over fed with his top dressing of 2-8-4 and EWC.
EWC will not burn plants but I'd bet he fried the shit outta them adding more N in late bloom. pH was no doubt an issue and pictures would have shown his bad judgment.
From what I can visually see, his plants had everything and them some, top dressing more nutes was unnecessary.
 
I go 50/50 and ewc each topdress all the way through flowering and the girl love it i even feed fish fertelizer 5-1-1 to the heavy feeder 1000ppfd need more food !
