Shiskaberry: E & F Hydroton vs. Readygrow Huge Difference!

So I have been wanting to get away from hydroton ever since I started using it, but I have always had good success so I've been a little hesitant. I looked and looked for coco croutons but the ones I wanted neeeded to be ordered so I said fuck it and bought a couple bags of botanicare readygrow aeration soiless organic mix. So here is what I have got going....

4 Shiskas in the Readygrow
3 Shiskas in hydroton (1 clone died after transplant so I went ahead and stuck a purple kush in there, its the smallest of all 8)
All plants are in 3 gal smart pots (love 'em)
Right now they are sharing a flood tray and therefore they are receiving the same food at this point. I haven't had any problems with under or over watering which is cool. As you can see from one of the fan leaves my ph got a little too high on me. As soon as they go into flower they will no longer be sharing flood trays or nute rez's.

So as you can see from the pics the plants in the readygrow are growing incredibly fast. Their stocks are bigger at this point than any plant I have ever seen growing in hydroton. I'm fucking stoked to see the buds these put out because i was already having great results; imagine what these will do! I just wish all eight were in the readygrow now. Look at the difference in the size of the fan leaves; that the biggest fan leaf off of all of the hydroton plants and the readygrow plants are full of these huge photosynthesis powerhouses.

Oh yeah and the most recent pics are at 3 weeks into veg from clone and all were planted at the same time except the purple kush in the hydroton (back left of tray)

Oh yeah , I suppose he may be. I've never used an ebb and grow system although I do like them. I think it could be possible. To keep the medium from escaping I suppose one could take a smart pot and put it in the net pot that would normally be used. To use a 3 gal smart pot you'd have to get 7 or ten gallon buckets; something with a little bigger diameter than a 5 gal bucket so the smart pot will fit. Besides that everything else should be pretty much the same. In the ebb and grow you'd probably water slightly less because there would be less evaporation.

Nice grow, I"m currently growing out the shiska also and about 30 days from harvest. I grow finish in 3in rockwool cubes surrounded by hydrotron in an low pressure aeroponic system and have also noticed explosive growth. I accounted on the doubling in size and should of accounted for them tripling in size. Using GH nutes with floricious plus, liquidkool bloom and cal/mag. Link is in the sig...

I have one pheno that has nice purple stems and another that seems to be really bushy and kinda made me wonder if it was the same strain...

Yeah you get really explosive growth in hydro. The plants could be the same strain, just different genetics. My shiskas are very bushy and also have purple stems. When I grew this same strain, with the same genetics, in dirt before the plant was not nearly as bushy as the hydro now is. Here's some pics of my dirt shiska.

Very nice, I can only hope mine put on as well as that :) I've seen some examples of shiska that have really nice bluish purple swirl in the finished nuggets, was either last months HT or Skunk publications as you don't hear too much about shishkaberry anymore. You tend more to hear of it's recent cross....

Gonna take the D700 down when the lights come on and snap some current pics of my ladies as they are starting to put on now and I'm still hoping for them to quit growing taller! I should of planned for triple height instead of double going into flower but lesson learned I'll know better next run.

I'm guessing he means ebb and grow.

It probably wouldn't work that well unless you could line the inside of the buckets with something to keep all the medium from coming out and clogging up the lines.
yes that is what i meant sorry very new to the hydroponic systems i plan on using an 8x4 tray and just wanted to know if the soiless medium would be a good choice

The readygrow aeration mix is far superior to hydroton. The difference in groth is crazy. My girls are going to be getting moved to the flower room and are going to be put under the screen maybe later today. I will post some pics, the difference is just crazy.

My finished nugs off my shiska didn't have much purp but my buddies did. My room always stays between 70 and 78 so I do not get a whole lot of purple

just checkin in thanks for the help bob
Hey thanks for stopping by. I was thinking about recommending a ScrOG to you but if the amount of plants you grow doesn't matter I think a SOG is just as good if not better. I just have to stay under 12 plants (flowering or above 1 foot by 1 foot).
