short plants

my plants are very short, but mature...I'm looking for answers. I think they may have vegged too far from the light? I propped them up, now they're closer, except when I drop them down for watering. They all have 5 nodes, I topped them at 4 1/2" to get two colas going, it's been a week, and they're only at about 5". They are chode-lier, about 8 to 10" wide and the lower branches are at approximately the same height as the main two tops. They've been in veg for 4 weeks. Ebb and flood with rockwool cubes and 3" hydroton below the cube in each pot. They are healthy, and bushy, but I don't know why they're so damn short. :wall:

do you know what strain they are. usually the higher the light is away from the plant, the plant will strech to the light witch is not what you want. Keep the light closer to plant helps this from happening. But as with sterching plants and short plant. genetic plays a roll in it to. but not saying this why your plants are short, there are other thing that can stunt the growth as well. certain nutes can stunt plants as well. hard to tell. do you have pic. for people to help we need to see plant.

yeah i broke my camera but i'll use my webcam and shoot some. they're different strains, a few are indica dominant and a few are sativa. I have been feeding them recommended amount of nutes from the start...the strange tihng to me is that they look axtradordinarily healthy and they are shooting out new growth on the lower branches, but height wise, they are very slow. ill put those pics up in a minute

Did the topping work out good cause im trying to do that with some of mine and im afraid it will kill them any advice on how you did it man?

yeah the topping went just fine...all I did was use a clean utility blade, sliced off the newest growth at it's base, and within a couple days the nodes directly below that were clearly becoming dominant, now each new node is about 2" long on it's third split, after about a week. but they're kind of grwing an angle, which is frustrating cuz i want them to grow more upwards.

any experienced growers have an idea for what these might yield a piece if i put them into flowering in a week, probably around 7 or 8" tall?

a quarter per plant would be weak...hopefully I can squeeze a 1/2 out of each of 'em...I wish someone would help me figure out how to get them taller or how much they'd yield if I flowered them this short

You need to try some different nutes..

That plant should be ALOT bigger no matter what the strain is.

Try fox farms full line w/feeding schedule.

Good luck. :peace:

topping the plant causes the hormones to drive into the lower branches making it short and bushy ive been reading all about this in my marijuana bible lol but if you clipped off the two lower branches on each side even with the stalk it directs the hormones straight to the top budding branches

thanks man I'll take your word for it, that helps. I guess it wouldn't hurt to put them into flowering soon then, they'll probably just be like 14-16" when they're in ready for harvest, and hopefully those lower branches give me some nice buds, along with those two top colas. I called my indoor gardening center and they don't carry foxfarm hydro nutes...only B.C. Grow nutes. The guy said i need more nitrate for height and primary growth...so I added BC Grow/Boost. I'll probably put them into flower next week, i'll post some more pics when they're a few weeks in. THanks guys

they will stretch when they go to 12/12 up to 3 feet. They look dam good to me. I would assume the strain is causing the shoort bushy plants along with chopping:joint:

Dont use a blade when cropping (fim) tachnique. Just pinch it with ur finger nails the wound will heal faster (Strait from the bible lol):hump:

alright cool...that'd be nice to know more about, how much they tend to grow in flowering...i've seen a bunch of random figures like 2x or 3x their size or even more if they veg bushy...anybody know what I should expect if I flower some 6-8 inch bushy plants?

yah, i would say that a six to eight inch plant should end up anywhere from 14/ 24 inches or so.. 24 inches is not a bad height for that two fifty cuz they don't get the light down real far on the plants.. i use a fwo fifty myself..
you should easily get say a half an o from a plant like that if everything else is ok with her.. gl..

thanks man...the 250 is workin well for me, i got one with the built in ballast to switch HPS for flower too...hopefully it can keep these ladies growing through flowering. I'm gonna let em veg one more week then put that HPS in and go 12/12. I hope I get a 1/2 off each, anything more and i'll be, well, even higher...
