Should I cut off these fan leaves?

Another question, what is the real world value, in chemical and botanical terms for "flushing". I assume you think an annual functions like a car radiator with a spigot?

Hey UB, I aint no botanical geniuss, not by a long shot but I thought the value of "flushing" was to help eliminate salt build up around the roots... And at the end of the grow a flush would help get ferts out of the bud..Is this not the case?

if you a patient man i would leave the leaves on and just do a mulitple harrvest. cut off the top colas when they are ripe and trim the branches down to expose the less mature bud. let it stay in flowering and a week later harvest more. IMO this workes better than just trimming leaves and harvesting at the same time. this way you dont loose any growth from the top buds. it seems to me when you trim the top shade leaves to let light hit the bottom it does balance the size out but the top colas dont really get much bigger. so from what i understand your just transfering the growing to the lower branches vs a multiple harvest where you let all of the bud mature to its max potential.

That's called "leaching", a different practice and for a different outcome than "flushing". There are no fertilizers in bud, only elemental ions.

Also, there is no such thing as a "shade" leaf. The large, extended leaves on cannabis are called "fan" leaves.
 
True story...I thought getting rid of the lower leaves would help and it did not at all....It probably cut down my yield alot...so if you haven't already cut them don't...Just let it go...if for no other reason than because the plant will use the extra leaves for nutrients as the buds get ready...that is why the lower leaves start to turn yellow...it is the way it is supposed to work...if you remove them you are taking a source of bud food.
