Should I flush now? Planning to harvest in 2-3 weeks, advice pls.

My plants are 12 weeks from seed, and it has been 7 weeks since I saw my first white pistil. I've read 9-10 weeks is best for flowering, but I'm not sure how close I really am. My two females are in an Aerogarden (don't comment on the AG pls), and my question is when do I need to flush? Am I as close to harvest as I think I am? Some of the calyxes in the top cola are fattening up nicely, but the ones at the tip and ones at the bottom nugs are still spiney/prickley looking. :-?

My thread is here Starting with Aerogarden (my first grow, advice appreciated) in the Aeroponics forum, but this is just a flush/harvest question.

Flushing should be done 1-2 weeks prior to harvest. The length of flowering is dependent on the strain though. Some flowers mature in 55 days while others may take as much as 77 days once you go to 12/12. Don't guess when to pick them......go to Radio Shack and spend the 10 bucks for a pocket microscope so you can see the trichs.

Good Luck

I have a microscope, the trichs are just starting to cloud, but still mostly clear. The top is where it's the most clear-cloudy, and I'm afraid I'll end up cutting the top cola off first, and letting the bottom nugs finish longer. My real concern is when to start the flush. I don't want to get too close to harvest and not have enough time to flush.

Nothing wrong with cutting the top colas first and leaving the lower ones to mature. If you're worried about nute taste in your top colas (cause you left nutes in the mix for the lower buds) then try water curing the colas. Judging from your description I'd start flushing in a few days. The lower buds should finish fine.

Another consideration is what kind of high you're looking for. If you want couch lock then you'll need to wait until most of the trichs are turning dark. If you want a nice head high then harvest a little earlier.

Thanks for the advice! I was planning on harvesting before the trichs get too amber. I'm looking for that nice head high, but don't want to harvest TOO early.

Looking at it over and over, I think I'm just gonna add more nutes and try to thicken it up a bit more before I flush. It doesn't look that close, and after looking thru a lot of other threads I think I should just wait it out a while longer before I flush. Anyone else have any advice?

Those need 3 more weeks id say. Flush the last 1.5 to 2 weeks...so give them a feeding now...and then water for the last 2 weeks.

Thx man, those were my thoughts exactly. I added nutes the other day, and I'll flush next week some time and let them go for another 2 weeks. Starting to get a lot of browning in the leaves now also.

Yea, I learned a lot of stuff this grow. It's been a good experience so far. :blsmoke:
Hey Woldo please do me a favor and keep us updated on how you harvest goes down. I am about 2 weeks away from beginning my flushing and you may have learned something I need to know by then! Pass on the good word!

This may be a stupid question, but I plan to start flushing tomorrow. Should I still pH my water while flushing? I'm gonna go with yes... but if someone thinks otherwise, please speak up. I've read to use nothing but water, but i don't know if the pH down acid should be in there or not.

Thx,

Well thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to start flushing today I guess. I'm noticing that there are still some tiny white hairs forming at some of the tops. I read on a seedbank that you can reduce the light period to 8 hrs to make the new pistils stop growing and fatten the buds a bit more... Is this true or should I just continue with 12/12 as I planned?
